First off, I used the wrong term in my description of the offending truck transmission.
I used "Autoshift" which was wrong. The AutoShift uses a conventional 2 plate clutch with a real live clutch pedal. It has electric actuators (Called an XY shift control module) for the transmission shift rails rather than a shift lever. A steering column mounted electric control lets the driver make selections and take control if needed.
The term that I should have used is "UltraShift". That is the one that was giving fits. That has the features of the AutoShift described above plus a servo actuated clutch unit and no in cab clutch pedal. Fuller has now come out with the "UltraShift Plus". It is touted as having the known issues addressed including loading docks, dump trucks in paving use, etc. .
Anyhow, it is a good ole' Roadranger gear box with servos and actuators scabbed on to give computer control.
I take the Fiat set-up as being the same thing in a generic sense.
Nowheres near as technical or as marvelous as the DSG.
