Ready for Trailer tires, Radial or ???

In my search for a 5er I have noticed a majority of units use the converter route. For years I have been using inverters in marine applications and found them to be very good. The only advantage I have found for the converter is cost. Is that about it or am I missing something?

One reason for wanting an inverter, is to be able to run the fridge on 12 volt and not the propane when under way. Another is better charging control.

It doesn't appear to be a normal request or so says the dealers. Is this about what you guys find?

Fewer manufactures seem to be offering inverters or even inverter prep on their units any more. Even the high end ones. Probably because of the limited market and the fact that converters are much cheaper at less than a quarter the cost of a good inverter. We are looking at a Newmar Mountain Aire and can't order it. However since the shore power entrance and the batteries are located only a few feet from each other, adding one should not be a problem. I wanted to add one to my current trailer but shore power enters in the back and the batteries are in the front and the belly is sealed making it a difficult job at best. I agree with Ken, that this is the way to go if you need it and can get it. Inverter chargers tend to be high quality three stage units as well so that is a bonus. Good luck in your search Ken.

I'm puting a inverter in my race car trailers living quarters.

One thing I found out is you have to islolate the output of the inverter from other AC sources or it can damage the inverter.

I have installed a double pole double throw 30 amp switch so I can take the inverter out of the circuit when the generator or shore power is in use.

ANyone else have any experience in this. I have had a lot of difficulty finding anyone with any experience with inverters.

Some inverters have transfer switches built into them to eliminate that problem. Heart Interface is a good one. We use them in our ambulances.
