Hi all

I have a stock '97 CTD 4x4 5spd 3:54's. I have a K&N filter in it and i have the star wheel turned as far forward as possible. I also made the stock exhaust straight. I gain a lot more power and mpg and hardly any smoke at low torque. But I will be goin down the interstate at about 75 and of course catch a stroker and ill step on it hard and pass him. It torques right up and hauls but once in a while when i do that the black smoke comes out so bad ya can see them behind ya and i have even seen people pull over a nite cause i smoked them. It doesnt do it all the time just once in a while. Also i was wondering if it would be better to slide my stock plate all the way forward and then adjust the wheel. Im goin to put a #10 plate in it later but i want the guages first. Speakin of gauges. I need the pyro and boost but would I need the transmission since its a 5spd? Or do i need the fuel pressure? Im green here ... . need to be educated. THanks guys Oo.

definately get a pre turbo pyro meter, they should be mandatory on these trucks, boost gauge to know what your turbo is doing, since you have a 5sp. no transmission gauges needed. if you looking for a good dose of power, #10 plate, 3k gsk. that will liven the truck up alot. if you want more power, time to save up for a clutch, then try sliding the plate full forward, that ill give ya some power. if you still need more(dont we all?) a set of pdr 370's will give you truck a big boost. youll need more air with the 370's, a good hybrid turbo of your choice. once you've done al that you shouild be in the neighborhood of 380-400hp. keep us posted on what you do.

Turning the star wheel all the way forward with the stock afc spring essentially deactivated the afc and your foot completely controls the smoke. You can try the medium afc spring from TST, or turn the star wheel until it just touches the stock spring (abiout mid way through the window under the 8mm allen plug).
