I have an EZ with the boost gizmo installed on the turbo. BD said that this would increase boost to 27 lbs and decrease EGT's. The EGT's are much lower. I am concerned about the 32 lbs however. How many pounds can you run and not need to worry about blowing head gaskets?

THANKS EVERYONE!

Head gasket is good for 40-45 no problem however I spun my stock turbo to death at 38 lbs boost, bearings couldnt handle it.

Cheers, Kevin

My truck (see signature) runs about 30-31 psig with the EZ and boost elbow and has for the last 12,000 miles. No problems, and max EGT of 1100 degF pre-turbo when towing at 21,180 GCW (21,500 GCWR).

If you have the boost elbow that allows adjustment, turn it down to 25-28. The EGT will still stay low, but the truck will feel like its running smother at WOT, plus the turbo will last longer.

From my reading, occasional excursions to 34 lbs won't hurt the stock HX 35, but best to keep it at 32 or below. I'd say if you're hiting 31 lbs max with the Edge elbow off the shelf you're in good shape.

After some mods, I ran my stock HX35 at 40+ psi with no problems. Not saying that this is a good idea :D, but 32 psi is not stressing it too hard.

Somebody correct me is I'm wrong... but socalmat's rig is an '02 which I think means he has an HY-35 not an HX. It is also my understanding that the HX is a little more durable than the HY. Setting the elbow to 28 lbs. sounds like a good idea to me for an HY. <--- first mentioned by TowPro

OOPS!!

I did notice that he had a 6 spd. but did not know they had the HX. I have an '02 auto so I guess I have the HY for sure then. Thank You you for correcting me RustyJC.

I learn something new every day on this site ( which for me, as I am definately not the smartest guy in town, is not hard ):)

Since the original poster has a 2002 model year vehicle, I was saying that, on the 2002's, the HY-35 is only found on the automatics. I didn't mean to imply that the HY-35 was only found on the 2002 model year trucks. Sorry for any confusion.

Maybe unwise but I spun mine at up to 42 psi quite regularly. Barked it on a daily basis. I have 150k miles on it. The good ones are very durable. I thought they didnt leave their efficiency range until above 36psi. Id set my wastgate to open at 36 and not worry about it. You could get a piers hybrid hx35 for not too much. ITd Be a good turbo for an edge EZ and a small set of injectors.

When Peir set my turbo up, he set to open at 30 psi and peak at 36, that might be a safer range. Al said I could raise if I found Ineed more boost.

I've been running an older Edge 3-light fueling module for over 42,000 miles. Stock HX35 turbo with the adjustable brass elbow. The most boost I ever see is about 30 PSI. No problems whatsoever. I also just installed 275 injectors but the boost is still the same max reading, but a bit more smoke and much more power! :D
