I will be selling my '96 Dodge and I will be removing my HTT HX40/16 turbo and TST 5 plate. I am just too lazy to remove the 370 injectors, plus I would need to BUY replacements. I already have the stock turbo and fuel plate. How do you think the truck would run with 370s, stock turbo and fuel plate, a 3K GSK and AFC spring. Would the new owner constantly have to watch the EGT gauge? Currently the EGTs only get dangerously hot when towing or running up hills. On the level or slight grades, EGTs are very manageable. The HX40 is probably accounting for 150* of that.

I would probably pull them out unless the new owner is looking for a little bit of performance. I think towing there will still be an EGT issue, but running empty may not be that big of a deal.

What are you upgrading to?

I have a 1998 5 speed (215hp engine) and other than a BHAF and the 370's it's stock. Well... I did "adjust" the star wheel for better performance. :D

I havent had any EGT issues pulling my 32' TT.

The reason I would prefer not to pull them out is time involved and I would have to buy new injectors. I threw away the stock 180s a long time ago. Lucky new buyer will be getting a full ATS transmission to boot.

I am planning on replacing this truck with a 2002 International 4300. It has the DT466 engine with a 5 spd. Allison. Is that a good engine and transmission combo?

I've never been a real International fan. And I'm not a real big Detroit fan either. I'm partial though, as I've been brainwashed by the people at Yancey Caterpillar, I think there are subliminal messages in the music they play in the shop. The allison should be OK, but I'm not a real fan of autos in medium/heavy duty trucks. Give me a 379 Pete with a 3406 or 3408 and an Eaton 10 spd any day... over anything.

What is this truck going to be for?

This truck will be for my tree care business. It will be used as a chipper truck. I am killing my '96 Dodge making it work like a med. duty for the past 5 years. That is how long I have been without a med. duty and I need to get one.

I do not care for autos either, but I can get a real good deal on this truck.

I just love the 6 spd. in my 01 Ram. My other choices would be a F550 with the 7. 3 PSD. I will not buy a truck with the 6. 0.

I guess it all depends on what kind of deal you're getting this truck for. I don't know how hard it is to get set up for private government auctions, but I go to them fairly often and you can find some really good deals on really good trucks. For example, I bought a 94' 379 Pete like the one I described in my last post with a 3406B in good running order with only minor asthetic issues for $2300. I've also purchased old "deuce and a halfs" with good multi fuel engines for as little as $400. There are freightshakers and all kinds of other trucks up for auction all the time too.

If I had to put my 2 cents worth forward in your case, there are a lot of single axle Kenworth dump trucks and utility trucks that go for cheap all the time too with Cat and Cummins engines that are IMO far better than the Detroit.

I don't know how pressed for time you are, but I can look at upcoming auctions and see if there's anything that would apply to your needs if you would like.

Sorry for the length.

I am very pressed for time, and this truck is already set up with a commercially made chip and tool boxes. I found another one, also in WA state but dealer has not called me back yet. It is a new GMC5500 with Dmax/Allison, also set up as I want and 4X4 for $55K. The other one is a 2002 Intl 4300 with 40K miles and 4X2 for $39K. My wife tells me to buy the new one.
