2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Is $48 too much to pay for Fuel Level Sending Unit?

That's what the Stealer Quoted me... Is this too steep??? I need to know pretty quick... It sounds a little high, but it IS the stealer we are talking about...

Are they fixed?

Are the new fuel sending units changed in design or materials so that they don't fail like the original units did?

My gauge only reads full for about 15 miles, then drops to about half, then takes the rest of the tank to drop to empty, does this sound like a sending unit problem to you guys?

Got the new sending unit!!

Well, Bill... the trick did not work... I got it however, and it did come with the seal. now I am going to put it in while I patiently await my transmission to be repaired.
