Is Bigger Better ??? 16K or 20K

I have ordered our 1st 5er, (thanks for all the good advice on my earler post). It will be an 2002 Newmar Kountry Star 32'. GVWR of 14,000 lbs. What my question is --------- I know a Reese 16k pivot hitch will be fine, will a 20 k Reese pivot hitch be better????? and why do you think so?

I went to the 20 k from the 15k and I hear a lot less creaking and moaning of the metal if you know what I mean. It just seems more solid. It is worth the money for the difference IMO. Bothe of the hitches I have described were a reese.

I have the 20k even though my 5er has a 12,500 GVW. This is one item that is better to have too much than not enough. Having the full floating head is a must. Id spend the extra money and get the 20k.

One of my suppliers had a promo from Reese last month and the 20K was $441 and the install kit was $55 my cost. There maybe some of those laying around... ... ... .....

Can you email me the name of the supplier? I have a Reese 15K that I got with my trailer but I'd like to upgrade to the 20K.

No matter what hitch you get it is no better than the attachment to the frame. Make sure the installer uses grade 7 bolts to frame. After a time of towing, check the bolts for tightness. You read storys of the trailer breaking lose from the hitch. Think about the hitch to frame. It matters also.

When we got our 5er the dealer installed the 15k, had a lot of play in it so went back and upgraded to to 20k Reese. This is heavier and has much less play in the head, and less back slap.

I would definately not do less than 20K, and then you are ready for the next step in size.
