Made it almost 6 years now I have lost my R. T. signal in the 7 way plug, still don't understand the idea behind this stupid design! what happened to the simple 15 amp fuses?

Has anyone had any luck with a regular mechanics scan tool resetting the TIPM or do I have to go to a dodge dealer to get this done?

Check the fuses first and if they are good I believe the dealer is only 1 that can reset it but becareful they may try to tell you that you will have to replace it .

It a dealer thing only but Simplysmn is right, dealer don't know any better or try to make an extra buck by claiming it has to be replaced which it rarely does.

While you are at the dealer getting the TIPM re-set, Have them increase the amperage load the TIPM takes before it trips. There was a TSB for the '06 for that issue.

good luck with whatever you do. keep us posted. i had my turn signal out 2 years ago, they fixed it, forward to 2012, i now have no running lights. i give up, the '04's don't have a TIPM, so i will live with it. if i have to tow the boat in the dark, i have a separate set of lights on the trailer i will hard wire into the boat battery.

i too don't know why they have to make everything so complicated these days

Guess I will go to dealer next week and see what they say. This is the first time I have had any problems, from what I read the TIPM can be reset 3 times?

I checked all fuses and they are good. I will check all my trailers, see if I see any shorts or bare wires!

On all the trucks I've owned, we ran a heavy power line to the trailer and than used the stock circuits to trip relays in the trailer... so all the factory wiring was doing was turning on or off a relay, under 1 amp... we built a board with relays to charge the trailer batteries, tail lights, turn lights, back up lights every thing except the trailer brakes.

If I had the problem you have I'd run a wire off the trucks rear lights, and trip the relays like I mentioned above, the extra current for the relays wouldn't be noticed by the trucks factory wiring harness. .

Hope this helps. .

Jelag, did you trip the relays with the tow pac wires or the truck taillight wires?

This is something I would do before spending $500. 00 - $600. 00 for a TIPM just to get a RT for the 7 way plug!!

Update- dealer said the TIPM needs to be replaced for nine hundred and something dollars!! Said that OK, will have to try something else. Seems like BS to me as it has never been reset before!

Guess I will get a self powered box, tap the RT truck lite and brake sig, and hopefully not burn some other high dollar part up. Anyone been running one of these boxes a while with no problems?

Tell them to Pound Sand the dealer hear only charged me 450 for tipm you can find them cheaper then 900 believe me and I don't believe you need the vin to install it .

When I had the tow trucks we had a "Wired Rite" relay box behind the seat to power the box lights and signals. I think the MRCB-4 is the one Wired Rite Systems, It worked pretty slick with resettable circuit breakers.

i also want to know, can I replace the TIPM? I am told my air conditioner burned up because my TIPM is shorted, so my AC Clutch is on all the time (and burned up)

I see the TIPM just plugs in, so can I replace it?

Here's a link to a replacement TIPM - says it's for a 1500 FWIW. The seller says in the details " Your vin number is needed to confirm. If the part number on your TIPM starts with 56049889 this will fit. ". So it sounds like the vin is just needed to get the right part.
They also have units listed for your truck along with their Ph#.

It would be fun to take a working TIPM and install the necessary relays and an external fuse block to make it bulletproof. If I were blessed with one of these jewels that's what I'd do.
