We talked to several Dodge dealers and they informed us that around September of this year the Dodge Ram 1500 will have a new body style, along with different engine options and an all new auto transmission. We verified this on another Dodge truck website. The dealer also told us next year the 2500 and 3500 will have an all new body style, different from the new 1500 body style that's coming out in September. So apparently they're doing what Ford has done (two) different body styles. We were wondering if anyone has any info. about what the new Dodge 2500 will look like, what power train it will have... ? I saw something on a program on Speedvision that showed an all new Dodge HD power wagon which looked sort of like a small Freightliner. This all new power wagon had I believe a 7. 2 or 7. 3L engine. Does anyone know if that's going to be the new engine for Dodge?
Any info. will be appreciated.

Bigfig,

This is the first instance of hearing that the 2500 & 3500's for the 2003 model year will be different than the 2002 1500's. What I can tell you is that I called Cummins aproximatley 1 month ago regarding the rumor of their diesel being dropped fro thr Mercedes. The Cummins rep I spoke to said that their current contract with DC is in effect untill 2004. He also stated that Cummins will introduce a revised engine for the 2003 model year. This updated engine will supposedly have more HP and be much quieter. I've heard that this new engine will have other upgrades or additions but have not found out what they will be as of present.

If you or any other member has information on the appearance of the 2003 HD trucks, please post. I'm one of those people who will be purchasing my truck in 2003.

While some might think DC is dumb, I don't think anyone would think they are STUPID. We don't by Dodges, we buy CUMMINS. It just happens to have a Dodge truck wrapped around it. I am waiting for my dealer to call me and say they (DC) are released to order the new 4 doors with the new 300 common rail Cummins. If I don't like it, I certainly like what I have. While I have been an MBZ diesel fan for a number of years, I certainly do not want one in my peek-up. Mi dos centavos... ... ... .

I agree with Barry. My main reason for wanting to buy the Ram is because of the Cummins engine. I'm very curious to see what the 2003 will look like and what kind of diesel Cummins will offer for 2003. Depending on what is finally offered, I just might try to order a 2002 before the model year is over to accept new orders.

A Cummins rep was in the plant today. I was told by one of my bosses that he told them they have a contract with DC til 2008. They also are working on a V8 diesel for pickups.

I have been told by our customers who work in body sheet metal plants for future vehicals that Dodge will follow Ford with TWO style trucks! The 2500 series and up WILL be different. Bigger than the 1500's. There are sketches on the net, but I have not found them yet. Go to pickuptruck.com

Wow Barry.
I didn't know that I only bought my truck for the Cummins. I thought I bought it because I liked the Dodge. You know I'm sure thats why I did, because my all but the last two Dodge's I've owned didn't have a Cummins in them.

Now I won't be buying a new anything because retirement doesn't pay as well as working, but I still stay abreast of things. Daimler owns three diesel engine brands, and none of them are Cummins. It is inevitable that before long, the Cummins will be out. In the meantime, in order to be more competitive, The 5. 9 will be fitted with an electronic fuel injction much like the one Chevy uses that keeps the Duramax so quiet. Another benefit should be increased fuel economy. But don't look for a power increase unless Dodge contracts for a heavier duty transmission than the ones they use now!

I don't see transmission limiting the output as far as manuals are concerned. As the NV5600 does have a higher input torque rating than the ZF, not by much but it does(550ft-lbs).
Allison is out supposedly because of the lawsuit against General Motors.
The 47RH is gone in the 2003 model year, to make way for the 48/49RH-HD 5spd. which is being designed at the moment or the possibility of an electronic Mercedes 5speed.
What bugs me is that Juergen Schrempf is dead set on having an MB diesel in the Ram, so a pickup truck diesel engine is being designed in Germany with the Ram and it's medium duty brother in mind. The worst part is that the Dodge division is going to foot the bill for this, not DCX.

This sounds real interesting. I heard today from a guy at the local pump stop and he was saying that the Ford dealer, I hate those ugly words, say they're getting the Cummins next year and DC is loosing them in two years. Whats up with that, some German know how!!!@@??

Are the ford geeks still spreading that rumor you think they could come up with a new one(rumor)after all these years(at least 5).

I bought my truck because it was a Dodge and it had a Cummin. I was Dodge loyalist for years now I'm a Cummins loyalist.

Well if Dc drops Cummins they could loose the percentage of the US truck market that Chrysler(Dodge) worked hard to get. That would classify then dumb and stupid.

I had my pump timing set along with a few other things done ay Cummins Rocky Mountain in Billings Thursday and I noticed a paper under the glass top of the counter (Might have been a Power Booster Newsletter) stating that Cummins had 300 HP/ 660 FT/LBS ready if and when Dodge upgrades their drivetrain to handle it.

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A MERCEDES IN OUR TRUCKS!

That would put the last nails in Fuhrer Jergen Scrimperemper Meister Berger's COFFIN.

I would watch Dodge go under just for that reason.
I guess I'm not a very nice guy.

I think putting MB Diesel in a RAM is bad idea. Very good chance I will not be buying a new Dodge truck in 2003 before the nw federal emmissions law goes into affect if
the MB diesel goes in.

Except that it's not American, what's bad about a Mercedes diesel? They've been making solid diesels for many decades. If I could talk my wife into it, I would buy a diesel Unimog in a second. Now that would be fun, except that I would have to decide which of the 24 speeds to use!

Tim

You're right a Unimog is great. But if you think your dodge is expensive to own - just start buying parts for a unimog or for that matter a MB diesel. Those guys at the parts counter all wear masks - and no they're not racoons! Also, just try getting anything with a MB Diesel fixed in po dunk USA! If we didn't need the unimog, I'd use something else.

Cost and parts availability will probably be the MAIN reason, people will shy away from the MB diesel. I for one would not buy the RAM if the only diesel available in 2003 is the MB! If this proves to be the case, I've already spoke to the salesman at my dealership regarding how late in the year I can still order a 2002 model with the Cummins!!! His projection is May 2002.

No truck at present. Waiting to see what the 2003 model year has to offer in the Ram 2500.
