I've been driving real trucks for the last 8 years - Toyota 4X4's. I wrecked my 4runner just before Christmas and haven't gotten around to fixing it yet. The right deal came along on a 91. 5 CTD 4X4 and I bought it. I hate the Dodge part - I've been fixing their crap since I got the truck but I sure love the running gear - none of it is made by DC. I get almost double the fuel mileage of my 4Runner - that's the best part. In terms of quality (based on not needing to fix stuff constantly) Toyota makes a better truck.
It's safe to say, I bought my truck for the Cummins engine!
Mercedes makes a good diesel, whether or not it'll be tinker friendly like our Cummins' has yet to be seen (I'm sure it won't be without spending mega bux). One thing is for sure, it will be reliable and long lasting (probably even better than the Cummins).
Sure, DC will lose market share if they drop the Cummins and inevitably they will. They did recently buy Detroit Diesel tho - if they drop a 4 cycle Detroit in the new trucks, it could be as good as our Cummins' are.
I'm sure this post will **** off a few - it's not intended to, it is just my opinion and I'm being realistic!
