I have been running a SPA digital gauge on my 2001. 5 for probably 6 years now. I used to have this mounted pre-filter, but now I am at the inlet to the VP44. I have always had the sender unit mounted directly, no hose between the source and the unit.
Is that good practice OR is the hose recommended?
I am thinking of adding a hose due to high and low spikes I am seeing, BUT I am not sure that would cure that issue. I am actually wondering if these spikes are always there, but not noticeable with a slower acting non digital gauge or mechanical gauge.
I see peaks of 30+ PSI on the SPA high point capture AND unless I set the low point to ZERO, I will get an occasionally low pressure LED light to flicker too. LP is #5 or so, the last one got relocated to the frame, with the Vulcan Big Hose kit and has about 10K miles on it. Generally the FP is fine, 10-14 PSI, the spikes bother me though and would like to eliminate those OR understand why they occur and what might help to minimize them on the gauge readouts.
If adding the hose isn't the cure, then I might as well KISS and leave the extra potential leak point out of my fuel system.
