... do the 24 valve trucks actually display a loss of power at higher elevation? My older '91 always seemed every bit as strong at 10,000 feet as it did at sea level - but my new one certainly does NOT!

I realize the difference between the older truck's auto transmission, and the manual in the new truck will display differing characteristics - but I wouldn't really expect it to be as noticeable is it currently is...

In any event, future power mods should bring up the power level a bit - but that OLD truck sure did pull! I wonder if the smaller turbo housing on the newer trucks cause max boost levels to fall on their face at higher elevation?

Doubt it's a pump problem - yet... Trial run towing our 5er almost right of the dealer's lot did the same thing - surely I will get a FEW miles in before the lift pump goes - I'm at about 1500 miles to date...

It did the same thing when towing a trailer out of the dealer's lot? A power loss can definitely be traced back to the lift pump . A friend of mine had a noticeable loss of power to pull his trailer, and discovered his pump had failed.

I have to agree with Gary. Every year when I take my truck to L. A. it runs tons stronger then what it does here in Colorado.

The first time we tried towing our 13,500 lb 5ver at 600 miles, I was ready to throw rocks at our 2002 and pull out the 1996 3500 V-10. This thing wouldn't get out of its own way! I could barely get it up to 60 MPH. :(

After about 1000 miles, things got better - it definitely was loosening up. In fact, the improvement at 1000 miles was so abrupt that I suspected the ECM/PCM has break-in programming for the first 1000 miles.

After 2000 miles (with the addition of an Edge EZ with boost elbow, Jardine 4" exhaust and BHAF), it started towing like I expected it to. :D It'll pull 6% grades in 6th gear at 65-70 MPH towing the 5ver now.
