Well I have owned this truck for around 3 months. Now that I am a diesel driver I can not see me in anything else. I do have a question for you folks. I took my truck on its first long trip. I have always noticed a light rattle, almost like valve noise in a gas engine when it has pre-ignition under light throttle. On the long trip the noise became very loud. It scared me and I thought there was a real problem. You could stand on it and no noise, and coast and no noise, but light throttle sounded bad. Got home, noise is still there but quite again, adjusted the valves, none were out and noise is still there. Only 60000 miles, can it be that I just do not know what a diesel sounds like.

Actually one of the things I noticed first about mine was the injector noise... they have their own sound.

When I changed out from stock to the Lucas nozzles I heard the difference right away.

Maybe that is what you are hearing.

Bob.

I think what you are describing is normal Cummins diesel noise.

I have one in a boat also and it sounds the same as you are describing.

Another thing that might be happening is a "fuel knock" caused by a injector not working right. It might be worth going to a local injection shop and seeing what they think.
