Is it possible to do an oil change without a mess?

I have done every iol change on my truck since new... I now have 469,00 miles on it so I guess I am somewhat of an expert on drainning oil out of my truck. I change mine cold and now use the fomoto quick drain oil pan valve that has a nipple. Mine is not a 4X4 so I can't use a gallon jug to capture the waste oil, but it drains nicely into my drain pan without a mess. Since it is cold There is no muss and fuss with the filter. I drain the oil from the filter into the drain pan.



I just got the Fumoto valve and this last time has been the easiest. I have a oil suction device that I bought and found it to do very well, but takes several hours to get all the oil out, and it is really hard on the air compressor. I guess it might be a bit easire if the oil was warm... but hell I hated doing oil changes on hot vehicles when I was a professional mechanic. Judging by the responses there are many different ways to change your oil. This last time was the easiest I have ever done.

Mess ?

If you let the truck sit 1/2 to 1 hour. ( allows oil pressure leave Filter). Oil won't run out unless you tip it to much.

Use a catch pan that has a Screw in plug in the center.

Raise the pan 3"-4" (cuts down on the splattering)

Don't remove the plug all the way so the oil won't out run the pan drain hole.

I ground the head off one of the band holding rivets on a cheep filter wrench

and threw the rivet away.

This lets me wrap the wrench band arount the filter,install a straight Pin(1/4"

bolt)in the clevace that that strap was mounted to and loosen the filter.

Remove the wrench and then remove the filter by hand.

No hurry and no mess.
