This morning I switched to Defrost and then back to heat from the dash/floor. I get a real deep vibration hum on high blower and can no longer switch to defroster. The deep hum can be heard on all blower speeds except low.

If the Blend Door broke, is there any way to manually change the mode to defrost and back to dash/floor heat. My shop is full, no place to lay up the Ram for a while. If I can do a manual change of air flow, I can live with it until I get shop space. I sure am not going to give a dealer huge bucks to fix it.

Thanks

Paul

When mine when, part of it fell into the blower causing humming/vibration and it was easy to tell it wasn't switching to re-circulate. I would think it should still switch between different vent modes but I don't know.

Thanks, This morning, it switching between Defroster and dash vents/floor vents. I still have the deep hum/vibration on high speed.

Well I need to reactivate this thread. Ever since I got my 2005, there has always been a 3-10 second delay after I turn the vent/defrost/blend control knob to when the change selected actually occurs; Sometimes increasing the fan velocity would cause the change to occurr more rapidly. I just thought this was normal since it happened since I got the truck. NOW, no matter where the knob is, I ONLY get defrost (actually, I fell lucky that at least I am stuck in defrost) It also seems as if the air blowing is not near as hot as it once was, unless I turn the temp control up all the way.

I am pretty sure that these problems are all symprtoms of the dreaded Blend door failure, but I would like confirmation from those who know (thank you TDR!!!!) BEFORE I take it to the dealership. Thankfully, it IS covered by the Chrysler Max Care warranty which I purchased only 3 months ago at 36,000 miles, in anticipation of just such a failure.

My questions are these--

Can the 2006/7 updated blend door/actuatator assembly be retrofitted into my 2005 ram?

Does anyone have a part# for the UPDATED assembly?

Is Chrysler automatically using the updated part, or do I have to insist on it?

TIA!!!

Max care covers the a/c. Yes the part # for the housing automaticly supercedes. All 3rd gen years can use the new recirc housing but the 06 is probably the most common year to fail,

Thanks, Bob!! I AM curious on your opinion on the upgrade, seeing as how you repair alot of these--is it actually a better part and do you see less of them fail??

I don't recall every doing the upgraded housing twice on a truck but I had done the earlier door only replacements more than once.

f ing blend dorr!! 40 k replaced twice!! at this rate it should brak within the next 3k miles. good night need to go to make appointment in advance. lol

Thanks for the info guys!!! I have an appointment tomorrow at the dealership. They have to diagnose first, then I will go back for repair-- Thankfully covered by the Max Care warranty I bought only 3 months ago!!! It sounsds like this repair will payback about 1/3 of the Max Care 7/100K. That leaves balljoints and injectors to go, though of course I'll be just as happy if they DON'T!!!

#@$%!#@$%!-- Took the truck in for "diagnosis" on Friday for a 200pm appointment which the service advisor said was necessary in order to get the right parts (small dealership, small parts dept. ) OK, I said--my wife drops it off and then picks it up at the end of the day, and they say, "well, you need to leave the truck for a full day so that we have enought ime to do the diagnosis"?? So why did they schedule me a 2:00 appointment?? (That's a rhetorical question, of course... they did it because they are lame) Now I have to take it in again for diagnosis and then again to fix it. Thank god that it's not the service advisor who does the work... :-laf:-laf (there senior mechanic is good, my freind who takes his truck there says. . )

You should have 5 days rental coverage with the max care. I would have left it till it works. If they can't get it in 5 days they will never get it :-laf

GREAT idea... more expert advice from a TDR expert. The question is now. . will I be able to rent another truck, ideally (of course) another CTD Ram?? Maybe even a 6. 7l just to check it out?? Oo. Oo.

I was having a problem with less AC coming out of Pass. Side vents. The Blend Door was not working right. This is the second one I had replaced! I was told that this has been a problem with the Dodge trucks. Supposely this new blend door is better than the last one... we will see! If it happens again I am going to trade it in for Ford!... . ah right!!

I have seen a few enterprise (rental )diesels but IRRC service contracts only pays something like $35 per day. If you are willing to pay the diff ... ... ... ... ... I did get a 1500 from Toyota when I was getting a recalled head gasket done about 10 years ago on a v6 Toy

Bob

I did not have to pay for my blend door to be replaced. But the bill was almost $800. I guess the tech has to remove the dash, and they had the truck for one full day. I also had the use of rental car while they did the work.

So that was part of the blend door assy I found in my humming fan this morning? It's an '06 w/78K.

Is this a PIA repair if it needs replacing and I elect to do it myself? Anybody know book time and/or typical parts cost?

The parts are cheap the labor will vary shop to shop. Many shops charge a days labor to remove the dash for any reason. I have done so many I do it in my sleep :-laf

It just depends on your skill and comfort zone.
