I keep getting a TPS sensor code and the truck shuts down to idle while driving with the cruse control engaged after 2 - 10 miles. When it dies I can pump the throttle 3 or 4 times and it will rev back up. It runs fine if I don't engage the cruse and the code clears after two days of driving. Any ideas before I buy a new TPS sensor or is there anything else in the loop?

If you've got a related code and dead peddle, seems likely. If you decide to get a new sensor, I'd try a Cummins dealer rather than DC. Don't know if this applies everywhere, but Cummins NW will only sell the whole assembly, not just the sensor. $350

Another thought. Check with the dealer... maybe they will sell just the sensor.

Try recalibrating the TPS (APPS).

Disconnect the batteries overnight (at least 4 hours). Reconnect them, turn the ignition to on (do not start), and slowly push the throttle to the floor and release.

You can also try and clean all the wire harness connections (on the APPS and ECM) with some good quality electronic cleaner and pack with di-electric grease. Hopfully this will make the problem go away. I do believe that the unit comes as a whole assembly only, therefore increasing the price from 'very expensive' to 'painful'.

I'm having very closley related symptoms, Still checking it out. It seems to be either the TPS or APPS (same thing-different year model). Looking for help myself. When mine cuts out (started at highway speeds only-now will do it at 40 mph occasionally)

Instead of pumping the pedal I turn the key off then back on while rolling (automatic truck) at higher speeds and can get throttle response back only losing a couple of mph.

Probably messing something else up though. Got figure it out soon!

I cleaned the connections and adjusted the TPS and it still does the same thing. Guess its time to buy a new one. Thanks for the help.
