Bought 2 new batteries, cleaned and sanded grounds. When truck is off, both batteries read 12. 8 volts on the voltmeter. With truck running drivers battery reads 12. 8 volts, passenger battery reads 10. 1 volts. Whats the deal?

Voltage

At first glance I would say your alternator is not putting out. With truck running voltage across batteries should read 13. 5 to 14. 5volts. Check that out. .

I checked and it's reading 12. 8 on the driver batt. and 10. 18 on the passenger batt. Found a site online about a rebuild kit, but can't find the rebuild kit for sale.

bad ?????

Sorry you say that the two batteries are NEW? I so sounds like one cell is bad or shorted. Have them load test the battery or replace it. Could be charged at fast charge over night to see if comes up do a hydrometer test check first. I have forgot what they should read in good state. Some one will know. Please chime in.

bad???

Were they sitting around for awhile before you bought them? A rapid charge should bring them back if not have it replaced. Being new they should be 2. 2 volts per cell X 6 = 13. 2 v Being new they won't need to much to recharge them when you start the truck. Do you drive it far enough for them recharge?

Checked the truck at an Auto Zone the alternator is bad. Does anyone know of an alternator rebuild kit? A new one is around $200 and they have to order it. I saw a website showing how to rebuild it with a $39 brush cartridge kit. But they didn't say where to get one. Thanks.
