I bought an 05, 2500 with the 48RE and the Cummins (since I am on this page). However I did NOT get the snowplow package as it has the "sport grill". Does it have the HD 241 case? It is electric shift by the way.

I am pretty sure all CTD 3rd gens have the 271 if it is manually shifted or the 273 if it is the electronic actuated transfer case. Much beefier and stronger than the 241.

Hope you are right

I really hope that you are right about that as the 271/73 units are just plain beasts! They are used in F-550's. I got the 241 info from a 4wheeler info book that came with the magazine, it was sort of a quick ref guide. It stated that 03-current Rams (or maybe it was 01 to current I don't remember) came with the 241 units. It did state that all CTD were 241HD's, I just wanted to make sure. But if you are right they are way off base, hope you are as the 271/73's are much stouter units and rated for over 7000 lbft of input. The 241 HD are rated for around 5555 lbft.

I've got a 271, but I've also got a lot bigger chunk of iron sitting next to it than you do. Blew out a 241 in my '01 just from "normal use", I hope this 271 is 'that' much stronger. Maybe that's why it makes so much noise.
