My trans suddenly grew its own mystery switch. :( Seems like it goes into lockup whenever I shift into D. When I slow down below 35mph truck starts to shudder like lockup did not disengage. I have to shift to 2 at this point. Above 35mph I can shift back to D and it will be in lockup. If I am at a standstill and I shift into D from any other shift position, truck will start to shudder like a stick shift with clutch engaged in gear and engine dies. Problem just started today. Does this mean I need to call DTT for a new TC and VB?? Not really ready yet... I just ordered my new turbo and gov spring kit from Piers this morning. Wasn't planning on getting a new TC till about summer.

It sounds more like a stuck valve in the valve body than a damaged TC.

What kind of oil are you running?

I usually have 2-3 stuck valves in my valve body due to the cheap oil I've been running.

I'll study the schematics after work to see if I can help more. But I'm sure others will jump in to help before that.

Several possibilities, clogged tcc solenoid orifice(debris from?),tcc solenoid shorted to ground, restricted or clogged cooler(debris again?) stuck one way check valve in cooler line, pcm giving ground command all the time, lockup apply valve stuck in apply position(debris yet again?) Need to check or have checked with scanner or voltmeter for ground signal to tcc solenoid, perform cooler flow test, drop pan and see if excess debris in pan. HTH.

Looks like the DTT plan may have gotten moved up a bit. Let us know or e-mail me direct.

James and Chris pretty much covered the possiblilities, if you dont have a scanner you need a test light or a volt meter, if you need a hand you can call me and i will talk you through the diagnostic.

Right now it sounds like a shoted solenoid to me, if you leave it you will need a tc and transmission. You must fix this asap.

The other thing you might want it check is if you have a mystery switch , check and see if the switch is shorted out.

Thanks for all the replies, including an email I got from another member. Unfortunately I won't be able to check/fix this thing till Saturday. I am starting a big job today that is part of a shopping center renovation and my part HAS to be done first before the other contractors can get going with theirs. Will I be hurting my trans if I drive it this way easy on 3rd and manually shift down to 2nd at just below 35? If so, I may have to rent a second truck.

I do not have a mystery switch installed and I don't have a check valve in the line.

Truck does not start off in 3rd. It starts off in 1st and shifts normally thru all gears. It just won't release lockup in 3rd or 4th while in D. If I manually shift it to 2 or 1, it will downshift to those gears. If I have the shift lever in D, it appears to shift to 3rd lockup.
