Had a surge at idle about 3 weeks ago took my truck to the dealer found my lp was dead (no idea how long) had no idea what a lp was at that point. $400. 00 later I'm out of the shop but still had a surge at idle not as pronounced as before but still there seems to be worse if the outside temp is above 85 degrees discovered if I raised rpms at idle to about 1500 and then let it return to idle less pronounced even when hot . Concerned I have damaged my vp44 also when at cruise on the road even though I can't hear the surge the tach has a slight bounce. Any ideas? Also looking for a shop in SoCal any suggestions?

I had already re calibrated the tps disconnected both negative cables let truck sit for about thirty minutes reconnected cables pedal slowly to floor and then slowly back up I did this after the new lp was installed I think this was in faq's? When I check for codes I get P doNE? thanks for your help

before the lp about 200 rpm bounce now when its hot about 100 rpm bounce until i raise the idle and back off then I can't hear it just see it in the tach no gauges fuel pressure gauge coming

How can any respectable dealer charge you $400 for a lift pump? If the lift pump was really bad, then this could be the downfall of your VP-44.

247. 50 for the pump 123. 00 labor plus tax at my local dealer here in Long Beach where I purchased the truck thats why I'm looking for a new shop in SoCal

It is a good chance that it is the vp44 but no way to tell for sure at this point. Put in full gages and just drive it. Eventually it will throw codes or something to help diagnose it.

Ignorance has been bliss for the last four years I've learned a lot about my truck in the last three

weeks:(

Sounds reasonable to me I feel the vp44 was probably damaged as a result of the lp failure but its still running good at this point thanks for your help I'll continue to check for codes and get my gauges in

Find someone with the Cummins VP tester. This tester unplugs the VP from the truck wiring harness, but will start the truck. This is what the dealer did to mine when it 'loped' t idle - the mechanic's write up called it a 'surge'. The truck was still loping with the tester plugged in, so they replaced the pump. No codes were set and nothing else to indicate what it was.
