"Though General Motors hasn’t yet benergy made aware of any known injuries or deaths associated with the defect, the automaker is recalling thousands of its midsize pickups due to a storage malfunction. GM has issued a recall on 9,200 2016 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickups over a faulty latch on the trucks’ console compartment lid. In the event of a crash, the lid could pop open and everything inside could then hit whoever is in the truck, increasing the likelihood of injury or death. The affected trucks were built between Aug. 25 and Sept. 24 and GM will notify owners and replace the latch assembly for free. - See more at: http://www.equipmentworld.com/gm-recalls-certain-2016-chevrolet-colorado-gmc-canyon-pickups-due-to-console-defect/#sthash.4HtCx4Lm.dpuf"

My 2001 lid did not latch well and the 2015 is no different! About half the time I open the lower section, the top lid falls open to the back seat!!!

SNOKING

Must be an adjustment issue, both my 2014 and my 2016 stay shut just fine, snaps close easily and stays shut.

Snoking,
My 2014 Ram 1500 and my 2013 Ram 2500 same issue. Open the entire console and the top flips open and a majority of contents end up in back seat

And here I thought all 3 versions of GM trucks were award-winning in terms of initial quality & interior fit & finish.
Canyon/Colorado, 1500, & 2500/3500. At least thats what GM advertises about their JD power rankings in a commercial regularly played on TV.
Initial quality includes things like no squeaks or rattles during initial 36,000 mile period & upholstery wear along with powertrain quality, and few CEL/'s MIL's.

I've got the Tradesman (buy the way which I LOVE). This is a cheap trim which i think RAM has done well with....... So my sandwiches go every where. I still love it.

Mine squeaks when I rest my arm on it. Stays latched though. I have a rattle in my dash in front of me up close to the windshield they are chasing right now. Only happens on cold mornings.

Will your cup holder retain that unopened 12 ounce brick "in the event of a crash"? What about that bag you take to work everyday with a computer in it? Is it secure "in the event of a crash"? Or the tool bag laying in the rear floorboard "in the event of a crash"? Need I go on?

It's one thing to complain about a poorly made or designed latch but to take it to a safety recall? Come on......

My thoughts exactly. I've got a 10 ton bottle Jack, jump. Box, 12 volt compressor, saw bar, chains, mix oil, various chemical spray cans etc. the last thing I'm worried about is a few trinkets in the console. Dead pedal and lousy itbm are a much greater danger as far as I'm concerned.

A valid safety recall would be the dead pedal / throttle lag... But that would open a can of worms with the EPA who's mandated the truck never makes the tiniest puff of smoke.

That was kind of my point of the post. GM is recalling vehicles for a center console latch, and much more important things are ignored! Fun however reading some of your posts! SNOKING

It's made that way on purpose. To keep from snapping u joints and other damage. Torque management....

The dead pedal and lag are there to keep from damaging the drive line....

Why don't Ford or GM suffer from the same problem. There is a way to limit torque while allowing the truck to drive normally. It's no different than the itbm failing to deliver full braking at low speed. Both Ford and GM brake controllers work much better than Ram. It's called poor engineering.

They dont have as much torque. Not only that, but could u imagine people taking off from a light with tires smoking? 900 ft lbs is over twice what the gto's had..
