It depends when the truck was built. The late '03 standard output trucks have the 48re. I believe the build date switch was around February, 2003. The codes on the glovebox tag can tell you which transmission it has.

That is definitely true for all High Output trucks, but I heard a rumor that Dodge used up their remaining 47re trannys on the Standard Output trucks in very early '03. Mine was built in late-March and has the 48re, so I'm not exactly sure when the change-over happened.
