I am rebuilding the fuel delivery part of my 1992 Dodge Turbo and I pulled the strainer assembly (maybe I am calling it the wrong thing? It's not a fuel pump!) out of the tank, and now I know why I am not getting fuel- it has basically disintegrated. I can't find a replacement so far on line, is it discontinued?

The parts name you are looking for is named "fuel tank sending unit".
Check out the gasoline version of your manufacturing year to, might be the same.

I googling around for some time, it seems that your unit for diesels isn't available anymore.
Found other forums were guys replaced it with an Airtex E7046M unit - but be warned, that unit is for a gasser and has an intank pump in it. If you go that way you must gut out that pump und discard it, replace with a piece of suction tube - or the truck won't run.
Thats what i found about it with a short search.

Yes the strainer is discontinued ! there are a number of ways to get around the problem. I fabricate them out of steel and solder fine brass screen to to the steel cage
