Well when I was getting ready to order my 2500 I made a list of what I wanted on the SLT model and the Laramie.

What I found out was that when I got my list done the cost of the SLT and the options I wanted was like $200 less than getting the Laramie with everything I wanted. And the Laramie had a number of things I would not have ordered on the SLT so to me for $200 it was a no brainer.

I am very happy with the Laramie.

Definitely wanted that load floor (and am really glad I got it)

Don't forget that floor. It is one of the best features of the Laramie package. I use it all the time for my 80# Golden Retriever. I put a LL Bean dog bed there and made up a tether for a harness to clip onto the child seat anchors and it works great.

The dial in 4wd option can be most useful

In addition to all the other great features, the other day I had to take a friend to surgery and it was a dreadfully snowy day. We traveled the back roads to avoid the silly folks in town, and it was so easy and useful to be able to engage and disengage the 4wd when going across snowy intersections, and when needed. I would have never reached down to activate and deactivate with levers, yet this gave me incredible and convenient control.

I wouldn't have ordered this feature either, but am now glad to have it.

There have been many posts pro and con about the dash mounted switch to engage/disengage the 4wd. Having been through one of the worst winters we have seen in the Northeast, I have nothing but praise for this feature. I am not trying to start a war here:) .

The rear seat in the Laramie is real leather... however, what you are referring to is the rear seat in the SLT with leather is vinyl. Just thought I'd clear that up.

Sorry, I was given wrong info before then. I know that the Gen 2's had vinyl rear seats, and I saw one of the brochures that said "Leather "front" seating surface. It must be different on the Laramie due to the suede inserts...

I think the leather seats with the suede backs are more comfortable that the leather seats in my 98, my wife thinks so, too. You do not stick to them in warm weather, she sure likes the power seat on her side and the dual temperature controls, too.

Oh, yes, I've used the 4x4 knob a lot this winter - when the roads are slick it's perfect for launching from stoplights. We won't know the long-term longevity for awhile - sure hope it lasts! Since I got my truck in October, I haven't had a chance to see how those seats feel in really hot weather, but it's on the way. I suspect the suede insert seats will be just fine.
