My Psychotty lowered my EGT about 150 degrees so yes, Ram air will help. But the downside of Ram air is more water and dust will be going to your intake and your filter will get twice as dirty. Remember, you will be drawing air at almost road level, where all the sand and grit is blowing around from vehicles in front of you. Also, i had a problem with rain Ingestion on another vehicle during a heavy rainstorm. Blew out the MAF sensor. Most Ram air systems have a built in system to help get rid of rain water, but no system will stop a torrential downpour completley. A K&N filter will shed water to an extent, so that will help.
Like everything we do, performance gains have to come with consequences. So, if you go Ram air, make sure to check your filter twice as much as normal.

Alot of Ram air systems i have seen for other vehicles like Mustangs and Camaros and stuff put large drains at the bottow rear of the scoops figuring the water will drain out the back before it gets sucked or blown up the top. The problem is, the holes are never big enough, nad if they were, it would limit the effectiveness of the Ram air. I would not worry about mild rain storms, but when its coming down so hard that your wipers are on fullspeed and the cars in front of you are kicking up tons of water, trust me, your filter is getting wet. Plus the bugs, ever see the front of your truck during the this time of year?, your filter will proably look like bee hive. You could leave the bug screen on your grill. It will help and wont diminsh airflow that much.

EMDDIESEL, I live in Western Washington (state) and see a substantial amount of rain. I have had my Air Bulldog induction system (i. e. , Ram Air) installed for almost a year now. I have driven in numerous rain storms, some very extreme. After checking my K&N air filter element numerous times, I have never seen ANY evidence of moisture. Doug Hofeldt designed his hood and supporting induction components with this in mind. The air must pass over and through several deflection devices that leave 99+% of the water in the cavity between the top and bottom fiberglass hood layers where it then drains out four holes in the inside lower edge of the hood. In addition, there is one small drain hole at the lowest point in the Air Bulldog replacement air box base. The bottom line is this; if the system is properly designed, water intrusion into the induction system is not a problem.

Bugs? Well, that's another matter. Doug has told me he has had quite a buildup of bugs on his air filter from time to time although, I haven't personally experienced this. In almost a years time I have had less than a dozen bugs on my filter. That's really amazing as I passed through an extremely dense bug storm while on my trip back from Pocatello, ID (just after getting my Air Bulldog induction hood). The ENTIRE front end of my Ram was an off-white color from all the bugs. I thought my new K&N would have been caked with bugs however, I was totally blown away when I found only one partial wing. Apparently I don't have near the bug problem Doug has in Idaho.

All in all, the Air Bulldog induction system works extremely well and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this system again (for my next Ram?).

I was not talking about the Bulldog hood, i am talking about lower end mounted ram air kits like the versions that dram air from below the bumper where there are large volumes of water from vehicles ahead. Ram air hoods are great since you are getting air from much higher up and away from the raod (Less sand and grit.

EMDDIESEL,,i was wondering about how they keep the water out,,there should be a way to set it up so you dont get any into the system no matter how much it's raining. i guess a bug guard has to come off for the air to hit the scoops, don't it? what about snow stuck on the hood? any ideas? thanks

I have a 2000 Trans Am with factory Ram Air and it doesn,t get any more dirt, sand or muck. than my 98 Dodge with my air bull dog hood. My TA air inlets are lower then the new dam air sys. inlet. From what I have found behind the front wheels is wear all the dirt gets thrown up so the leadig edge is the best place to grab air. Most new car air inlet is some where near the front of the car and almost always ahead of the front wheels. Have you ever watched a car or pick up going through a very dusty road the front is easy to see but after the front wheels the whole car starts to be engulfed
