Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Is the S.O. block the same as an H.O. block?

Might have to replace the block on my truck, a buddy of mine says he can get ahold of an S. O. block or complete motor for fairly reasonable. Is there a difference in the block at all? or is all the difference in the injection pump and injectors, etc. ?

TIA for the input

The blocks should be pretty much the same. The difference would be in the pistons, the rings, turbo, flywheel, ECM and in the head (cam, valve seats, etc... ).

There could be a difference in the piston cooling nozzles and maybe the oiling? Due to different pistions. This would be the only reason I could think of as to why the "blocks" would be different.

The H. O. is a higher compression engine.

Yes, your right about the IP and the injectors too.

JL,

The only difference I am aware of is the piston cooling nozzles. The SO engine doesn't have any.

Guys there no difference in piston cooling nozzles until you get into the 3rd gen engines.

Engine blocks are the same for 2nd gen SO and HO engines. And then they changed for the 3rd gen engines but SO and HO engines get the same block also in that generation.
