Website slow tonight?

Search function doesn't search

I'm not aware of any issues and looking at the log files everything is running smoothly. Keep in mind if you are looking at a post with a lot of pictures linked from other sites that can slow things down greatly - especially if that server is offline for some reason. Each picture can take 5 seconds to time out so if you had 4 pictures on a page that the server was unavailable for that would slow that page loading for 20 seconds.

Any time your having a slow problem with the site try doing a trace route to see if the problem is on the net backbone somewhere between you and the site. Bring up a command prompt (programs->accessories->command prompt usually) and then type in:

tracert www.turbodieselregister.com

You shouldn't see any asterisks in the columns until you get to the tdr server. If you do then packets are being dropped on the backbone somewhere and causing your problems.

No wireless in the pic here. This was while at work. We have 4 T1's. Odd thing was that all forum main pages would load lickety split, and some threads would load fast, while other (75%+) just timed out after several minutes. I've never had any slowdown like this before on the TDR. When I saw the post by Bob I thought there might be something up. I guess I'll give it a try again tomorrow. Maybe something is up with the network or inet connection at work.

Will try this tomorrow. Thanks for the tip Steve.

Starting at global compass it is normal - that's just before the TDR server and your hitting our firewall at that point. Pings are firewalled out at the server to help avoid denial of service attacks.
