Here I am

Is there a 16" rim that fits these trucks (2500)?

I need new tires, and wouldn't mind some black rims. I would never buy new rims just for looks, but if a 16 " rim could work on my truck, it would pay for itself in one or two sets of tires, and opens up the door to a lot more tire options.

If I am stuck bying tires for 17s, I really haven't found one I like yet. I want a 285 or so that would be a compromise between mud and street, with emphasis on longevity.

Any suggestions appreciated.

My understanding is that a 16" wheel will not fit over the brakes on these new trucks. Have you looked at the BFG All Terain TA? I run them in the 315 and they are a pretty decent tire. I spend A LOT of time on gravel and in the pasture with them and they have performed really well. They are also pretty quiet on the pavement for an off-road style tire.

It's a no go on 16's. 17" is the smallest that will fit.

I have been told that most aftermarket 17 will not fit, making the 18 the choice. I have to admit the t-rex welds are nice looking wheels.

I should have known I would have read about it by now if they did fit, but seemed dumb not to ask.

I like the bfg's, but the ones I had on my '00 did not wear wll at all.

WHat else is comprable in mud and highway, that might hold up a little better?

You could try Toyo or Nitto tires.

I have no experience with either of these brands, but I think I'm going with the Toyos for my next set of tires.

Thanks for those links, spooled up. I didn't see much in the way of 17s on the Nitto site, and the Toyos look nice, but everything is really wide, at least in the AT line, which was the only one I saw that came in 17s. Was there one in particular that caught your eye?

the 325s would look nice, but you'd need a lift I presume and that size must be horrible for economy.

DFrank,

I e-mailed Toyo about a 305/70R17 a while back and they said that they will have one out this year. I think they mentioned springtime, but maybe summer.

Problem is, all of the 305's I can find except for one (Parnelli Jones tires) have a load range of D.

PJ tires are big $$$ though. Someone was given a price of over 3 bills EACH!!

I'm planning on putting on 18's simply because there are more tire choices for that size wheel. I found this AE 114 wheel that has a +20mm offset. This is not ideal, (+40mm is stock) but it is a lot better than the negative offset wheels out there.

I personally want to lift my truck to fit 315 Toyos to get my effective gear ratio down (numerically) as I have the 4. 10's. By going to a 35" tire, I will be somewhere close to 3. 73.

I will look to see what part number they are,but a buddy has some 18 ARE wheels with the same offset for sale. only on truck till first rain then they came off. seems they get the driver wet with road debris when rounding corners with the wheel out there. I assume less than 500 miles wheels and tires for 1900 u. s.

I run the micket thompson "dick cepek" FC2's. They are way better than the bfg's i wore out really fast. They are quite and are wearing very well.
