I couldn't figure in which particular forum to stuff this question, so I picked this one. (Please forgive my ignorance. ) Here goes: Have some of the second-generation diesel Ram trucks ('94-'02)come with a lighter duty T-case (NVG241?) as opposed to the NVG241HD? Thanx. Jim

yes the light duty transfer case is standard, the hd is a option. if you want to check which one you have, look at it and if the transfer case has a pto cover on it it's a hd.

They sure did. The HD is optional on the 2500 trucks, but it is standard on the 3500 trucks.

Both my '99 5spd and '00 6spd came with the standard 241. I've had no problems, leaks, or complaints about it and it gets used all the time.

Another wasy to tell is to look at the transfer case and it is labeled with the HD after the serial numbers. Also the HD comes with the snowplow option and when you turn your key to "on" the lights on the dash (per the owners manual) light up a light that indicates you have the snow plow option. I forget what the light is labeled but just look in the owners manual and you will see what it is labeled. I think it is "transmission temp"? but can't remember.

My 2000 truck has a yellow picture of a transmission that lights up during boot-up. (boot-up, is that valid truck terminology?)

Mine did come with the camper and snowplow options. I have a 241HD transfer case, but I'd swear there is no PTO cover on it.
