Summit Wiring Kit

I installed Summits kit yesterday with some Sylvania Super Stars and it has

improved the night vision a bunch, acceptable now.

Make sure you put the relays on the right side as you look into the engine

compartment! You need to run the wires on top over the fan shroud there is

just enough slack in the wires then.

HOWDY. .

I've been out in the RAIN & SNOW putting in my NEW SWITCH... .

Three of the wires were burnt completely off,,,an not REAL SURE ON which spade they go!!!?????

Any one have a picture showing as what color to where?

also ,,some what of a WIREING DUMMY. . In the REPAIR KIT,,,THERE is a "PIG TAIL" WITH A connector with a "Y" ,,and a RELAY ??... Just where does this sweet heart go??

NOT ALL THE wires in the kit, were the same as on truck... is this true of most of the kitts??

THANKS ALL...

I have a manual but it's for 95 year and I don't think it's the same. Someone need"s to come up with colors for you on your year,,sorry.

hdlight relay

I installed the Summit kit on my 02 and saw no difference at all. The 02 system is already relayed in stock form. In my opinion the summit kit has inferior connections for the bulbs than the stock. The hdlight switch heats up from the dimmer, not the headlights. The basic problem is the reflectors.

Your post is the first I've seen on the TDR making this claim. I assume you're speaking of 2500's & 3500's (second generation sheet metal). I was quite certain that the headlamp wiring was the same in all second generation Rams from model year 1999 forward - the only relays appearing in these headlamp circuits being a 20 amp micro relay used as an interlock to prevent fog lamp use with high beams and another 20 amp micro relay used to power the inboard (9004) high beam filaments on trucks with the Sport option.

Perhaps other 2002 Cummins/Ram owners have made the same discovery as you and can provide more details.

SilverStar Lights

I also got the Silverstars. They help a little but the illumination is still pityfull. I have a pair of KC Dayliters, they light up the road for a good 1/2 mile. I have them switched through a relay to work with the high beams. When I dip the high beams to low beam and they go off, man..... seams like the factory lights are not working. I think if you want to see good you have to get some driving lights.

I just installed the silverstars, but have noticed the high beam light inside the cab stays on, as well as the fog lights do not work. Any ideas? I really like my fog lights. Thanks

The underhood relay box on my '02 HO has a *space* marked for a headlight relay, but that space is blank/empty - possibly that same relay box is used on other model trucks such as the Sport models, and a relay is then installed?

That space is where the Sport models have the relay I mentioned ("another 20 amp micro relay used to power the inboard (9004) high beam filaments on trucks with the Sport option") in my earlier post.

Apparently D/C feels the headlamp switch can handle two 65 watt filaments in the non-Sport Rams but needs help with the two additional 65 watt filaments in the Sport Rams.

Quick question, I installed the HelicopterDan mod a few years ago, this is a relay that pulls 12v from the battery and powers the low beams when you switch the highs on. No additional load on the switch and both elements being on at the same time is nice.

Now the question, will the Summit kit do away with this mod, or is both beams burning when on highbeam part of the kit?

Thanks, RJR

Summit kit runs a standard beam swap, it's just a lot brighter. I know there are two wires that can be joined in the steering column harness to make both beams work but have not figured out which ones Saw a post some time ago where someone did this.

I mentioned in a prior post that my 02 hdlites were relayed stock. A few posts after mine caused me to check again as it seems I am the only 02 with such a system. Here is what happened. I'm the second owner. My truck is rigged for plowing with 300watts of extra lights on the plow. Whoever installed the system wired in a relay using the blank sport slot so that the whole thing looks like stock. Had me fooled but it is a nice job. The truck hdlites go off when the plow lites are on. Sorry if I caused any confusion.

I have that same setup on my plow that stock lites go out when plow is mounted and plow lites then come on. Will this Summit kit still work with my setup that I have?? Or am I going to have problems with plow lites and the Summit kit??

Jeepit-I removed the Summit as it prevented my plow lights from working. I have not had time to figure out why yet but I think it has to do with the ground switch relay system for the fog lights plus my truck has been rewired to include a relay for the headlights and plow lights. I don't think my experience is conclusive, maybe someone else can chime in here.

The following instructions were previously posted by, 2broke2smoke and was for his '01:

On the steering column bundle locate a light green wire and violet with white stripe wire ... use a wire tap connector ... take a pocket knife and cut out the dead end of the connector to "saddle" both wires together and lows stay on when high beams are lit. There are two light greens, take a piercing tester and find out which light green turns the light on and off with the switch.

Hope this helps

Be careful when putting higher wattage bulbs in the stock housings with stock wiring. They can draw a LOT more current and melt the harness, causing a short and possible fire! Don't ask my how I know:)

If you want more lighting ADD AUX LIGHTS with their own separate HD wiring. No need for a harness, just run them off a relay linked directly to battery power, so you'll get the full voltage.

I run the Silverstar bulbs, but they are stock wattage.

819 Recall Switch

HOWDY... ... .

I just got (an replaced) the RECALL switch,,,,

But It came with another "PIGTAIL" ,,,"Y",,connector??

Does any one know where this needs to be hooked up??

THANKS ... ...

Has anyone experienced a loss of "day light" lights, I think it is just a Canadian item. I installed the Summit harnes. Makes a big difference with low and high beams but the "day timer" lights flicker on and off or do not come on some times. I figure that the trigger volatage may be too low? Comments? Is there another relay that could be used?
