Just wondering if there is a check ball in the cooler lines on a 95 47rh? My neighbor had his stick in his 98 1500 and ruined the trans. Thanks Anthony
 
It is on the front line on the trans... the one that contains the temp sending unit... on the passenger side of the engine there is a small rubber line... it is in the small rubber line... i used a drill press and drilled the ball out and then make sure you get the spring and clip out of there also...
 
On my 95 the line leaves the trans, goes to a coolant warmer on the rear pass side of the block, then comes back towards the trans to the left side of the engine, goes forward to the air-trans cooler in front of the radiator. Where is the check ball? Thanks again, Tony
 
Only thing if you take the check ball out is make sure that you leave it in gear (or neutral) for a few seconds with your foot on the brakes before you take off. The pump doesnt pump when its in park, and without the check ball the fluid drains back if it sits for a few.
 
Do you still need to wiat a second before you go if you have a aftermarket trans with a valve body? And is it worth taking out?
 
The trans oil pump turns with the TC anytime the engine is running. Wether or not oil is flowing through the transmission is a function of the VB. Most aftermarket VB's flow oil in park. I would remove the check as it restricts flow and is prone to failure. I easily replaced that short section of rubber line (under the exhaust manifold) wich contains the check when I upgraded the lines to get rid of the factory plastic connectors. If you haven't done this either, you really should consider it. There has been many cases of those connectors failing and allowing your transmission to pumps all of its oil out while you are cruising:eek: It happened to me, actually my wife was driving. The only downside to removing this check is when you start up after sitting for a while, you have to wait a few moments for the TC to fill up again. Not a big deal. My '95 only needs about 10 seconds after sitting a few days. Hope this answers a few of your questions.

This is on the updated line, I'm not sure if the stock line with the fine quality plastic connectors had a check ball.



If your truck doesn't have a short rubber line on the between the line from the trans and the block muonted heat exchanger, you have the old OE line.
 
Well tonight I removed the pressure line to the warmer on the side of the block and I do have a check ball which is stuck and more than likely why my truck lost overdrive. I noticed as the metal line crossed under the trans to the pass side it is very worn along the edge which touches the other hard line. Do these ever wear out and leak? I'm thinking about replacing them after the trans is rebuilt. Anthony in Idaho
 
You definitely need to replace those lines ASAP. If you are rubbing through the line and it "pops" it will blow all of your ATF out and burn your transmission up in a flash. When my wife called about my truck "not wanting to go" (while driving across town) one of the plastic connecters had failed and was ******* fluid out of the passenger wheel well onto the side of my truck and more than a few feet out onto the road. It had not completely failed and that was the only reason my transmission didn't fry. It only took a few moments:eek:
