Before I spend $375 on a reworked VB, I was wondering if there is a kit I could buy and do it myself? I heard there is an upgrade kit that includes a resister that increase line preasure and convertor clutch lockup--just wanted to see if anyone has experienced this.

There are kits out there. I think TST and Jannetty Racing are two vendors that have them. I don't know what is included in these kits, you'll have to call and ask.

Good luck,
Mike

semi automatic , yes there ias a kit , trans go and superior both sell them . from MY OWN experience , YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR . yes the kits are only about 75 to 100 bucks , but there are alot of tricks that aren't included in the instructions , hand grinding of parts that if not done correctly could leave you with an unhappy experience . the guys that know the tricks won't give out that information so its ALL a guess .

buy a valvebody that has been tested prior to shipping and you will have a piece of mind that it should work properly when you button it up , the only variable being you and not did i get that angle on the valve just right .

the resistor does NOT increase the line pressure , the VB adjustment does . the resistor fools the computer into thinking the pressure is still at factory tolerance and prevent check engine fault , but the resistor must be the correct value and that is vehicle dependant .

call DTT and get it right the first time , if you're still unsure find a fellow member with a moded auto trans , find a few different if possible , the tale is in the driving experience .

thanks kevin , i do pretty good for a backyard hack #ad

I had a trans-go shift kit installed a year ago by a transmission shop associated w/Diesel Dynamics in Las Vegas (Choice Transmissions). Other than a temporary problem with T/C lock/unlock a month ago that mysteriously disappeared, the kit has done well for me. If I had to do it over again I would probably go w/DTT VB. I'm a DIY'er but I would be uncomfortable doing the shift kit myself after watching the mechanic install my kit. Too many ways to screw it up.

Thanks guys. I know that DTT would be the best, I was curious how could get by without spending $375. Heck I could almost get a 727 VB w/transbrake for that. After spending almost $40,000 for a truck you wouldn't think I would have to modify it to be happy with its performance. Wonder why those morons at DC can't get it closer the first time. #ad

Mopar-muscle, yes its a "real" Max Wedge. I run in the Nostalgia Super Stock Class. Best run to date 11. 01 @ 122. 65. That was at Norwalk Raceway Park. Then at National Trail in October #6 cylinder leaned out and took the head gasket, block and head out. it was ugly--well about $2000 later I am ready to go again! #ad
That's why I bought the Big Ram--just to tow the Plymouth Pig around--now I am looking at spending more $$$ on the tow rig then I am do on the race car. What's wrong with that picture???

Ron, that's the one area that Dodge could have but didn't build a transmission designed for the Cummins. DTT's VB and TC take care of this weak link, for real.
Excellent product, immeasurable customer service. A rare combination in todays market.

Semi Automatic,

If you want to try doing a shift kit yourself, the most reasonable option available is to simply buy the parts from your local transmission shop, atra suppler a parts wholesaler. If you do a search under ATRA-gears you will find one close to you.

Just make sure you calibrate correctly for your application and read the instructions thoroughly.
