Is there a way to transfer files from DVR to your Laptop/PC?

Hey y'all, I am just curious if there is a way to transfer your saved movies, or music (I recorded some music on XM with the DVR) from the DVR and put them into your computer... I am sure someone on here is computer savvy and has probably done this... thanks guys!

It would depend on what dvr you have. last time i checked it was not doable on directv dvr's. for audio at least you can always just use the audio out from the dvr to the audio in on your laptop and record it that way but it is a slow process.....

As said it would depend on the model of DVR you have. But you can do it with any DVR with the right equipment. My DVR doesn't support it so I use a DV Video camera to transfer it to my PC. The video/audio cable goes from the DVR to the video camera and then a firewire cable goes from the camera to the laptop. There's a setting on the camera that allows for passthrough (AV->DV) and the camera handles converting the analog signal into a digital one. Then I use Windows movie maker to capture the movie and format it how I want.

One thing I did see on one of my Blu-Ray discs is it apparently has a utility of some kind to transfer the movie to your PC. I need to do that so I can just bring in my flash drive instead of DVD's to work.

Scientific atlanta 8300HD I found you can fill the 160GB hd on the cable box with fodder WILL record what you want to an external Hard drive thru the usb port. The key is that the on board HDD needs to be full in order for it to record to an external unit.

I also use what Steve describes also. It's a Pinnacle Digital/analog/optical changer. You can go from rca to usb, usb to usb, optical to rca, rca to rca, rca to ... well you get the idea. And just use the software to make it into AVI, Mpeg, Mpeg2, Dv, Qt, And avp (Cellular)
