I agree. I don't have an automatic but I'm usually in 6th gear at about 30 mph. There is no reason to rev your engine like a gasser, it has plenty of power at 1200 RPM to pull the truck.

Some of you guys have forgotten what it's like to drive a gasser. My truck has more power at 1200 RPM than my old gasser truck had at any RPM. :) Downshift and let the turbo spool and you've really got more... . but under 1,500 it still has more power than any gasser. :D

6TH @30 MPH??????. You must have a new clutch sitting on your workbench ready to go!!!!!!!

Mac

While I agree that everyones towing situations are different, I have to say, for me anyway, the new '05 48RE works flawlessly and shifts only when needed. I do not encounter any of the "hunting" you mention. I just returned yesterday from an RV vacation that included six mountain passes roundtrip, averaged 12. 2 mpg again (same trip as before) and the trucks performance was outstanding. Yes - I love the way the new '05 48RE works.

My only complaint is that the truck will stay in O/D (tow haul mode) on the hill until about 1300 RPM then shift to (I think) 3rd gear unlocked. Suddenly I'm spinning 3,000 RPM's. It seems like it would be better if it would drop into 3rd and lock up rather than what happens.

I've installed an Edge Juice/Attitude and hope on level two I will be able to pull the hills and stay locked up. Hopefully, it won't turn the T/C clutch into toast. OTOH, It would be a good excuse to go for an ATS or Suncoast low stall T/C with the larger clutch. :-laf

Well, I have now had a chance to tow several times with my '05 and I have to say it is very effortless, just put it in tow/haul and drive it. Mine downshifts effortlessly when it needs to, if I'm climbing a hill and the rpm's drop, I just give it a little more throttle and it downshifts as it was made to do.

On our last tow, my buddy was following me with his '01 & 5vr, built CTD and popular aftermarket (name witheld) transmission, he could not get his truck to downshift properly at the right times and found it very frustrating as I left him in the dust for most of the tow. He is now looking at ordering an '06 after he saw how well my '05 tows the 5vr. I know a lot of folks want the option of being able to lockout OD, but for me I like the way the '05 works, effortless towing IMHO.
