Has anybody found anything that really WORKS? These stock blades suck and are getting worse. I found these and wonder if they do any good as they seem real reasonable in price. http://www.jcwhitney.com/productnoitem. jhtml?CATID=65932 Anybody tried 'em? ANY suggestions welcome, thanks in advance.

I tried some triple edge wipers from wal-mart. They seem to work real good for me. But... you can't get the inserts, you have to get the whole new wiper.

I'm w/ Bob on this one. =)

Picked up a poir of Bosch today... used them in the passed and they seem to wear as quickly as many of the others... but their performance is better.

When I went to purchase some replacement wipers I remembered hearing that Bosch Micro Edge wipers were the hot tip however, after talking to my local NAPA AP man, he swayed me away from them, citing they were just about the worst made (in his opinion). That just about floored me as I had heard how great they were from several different people. Anyway, after talking to him for awhile, he revealed that he had just started working there but had intimate exposure to ALL Bosch products (used to work at a Bosch foreign car shop). This guy had nothing but GREAT things to say about ALL Bosch products... except for the wipers. Strange, huh?

Anyway, I decided to purchase Mopar replacements directly from the dealer... not bad, but I haven't had them on long enough to make any longevity statements.

I know one thing, NOTHING beats the FACTORY/OE replacement wipers from GM!

I like the Bosch Micro Edge. They worked great on my 98 and I just bought a set for the 01. They make a nice clean sweep without that streaking I got with the factory blades.

What is wrong with our stock wipers?
I think DC really worked hard to find the perfect match for our trucks. Two features really highlight their benefit:
First I like the feature which keeps the area in front of the driver glazed over until the entire windshield has melted. What a wonderful safety device to prevent you from driving until things are perfectly safe.
Second I really like the tear away feature which allows the rubber edge against the ice pack to detach from the main wiper thus saving your expensive wiper motor from damage when the blade is stuck in ice...

Ah, what will DC think of next...

I also just bought new wiper blades. I got Bosch Micro Edge Excel. I bought new wiper arms and blades. Big difference; much better performance than the OEM's.

Ditto on the Bosch micro-edge. Also, for 'winta' use found thatJacobs Electronics makes an electric washer fluid heater, heats to 120 degrees in 90 seconds, one shot and NOTHING stays on your windshield. Its great when this flatlander heads north to God's Country!!

That washer fluid heater sounds pretty nifty. I can't count the number of times I have used half the resivoir of deicer washer fluid when I was in a hurry and couldn't wait for the defroster. Where do you get the heater and how much does it cost?

Tried all kinds of blades, brand didn't make much difference, cause they kept lifting off the glass at cruising altitude. Put on a set of those little add on springs from Wal-mart and now they stay on the glass where they belong. #ad

Rain-X works pretty good at highway speeds. Water beads up and blows right off and you don't even have to use the wipers, but for winterslop ya still gotta use the squirters once in a while. It's not so good in town though, not enough wind speed.

Oops, too late. What silencer ring? (More fun than my 98 SST)

Articat, The heater is available from: Jacobs Electronics, Midland TX 79701 1. 800. 825. 3345. Cost is (sitting down?) around $90 BUT it has a good warranty and is not a cheaply made unit. It appears to be built like a 12V water heater, its about 3 in diameter and 7 in long with hose barbs at the top and the harness out the bottom. Comes compete with fuse and connectors. I've farted around with fluid warmers on other cars ('thunderspit', J. C. Whitney, etc) they all seem to drop washer pressure alot. This unit does not! I suspect its a chamber heater instead of a maze of coiled tubing. Its entirely thermostatic, will cut off at 170 degrees (Geez!) In their own directions they specifically describe cutting through ice, not frost. On my '98 I installed the unit behind and below the brake manifold so no washer hose refitting was necessary (outside of the unit stays cool) Used a spare fuse and relay position in the PDC for run-only power, and built a digital switch (functions like the heated mirror switch) that I dropped in the dash heater control panel--looks OEM (it should be OEM!). Its very impressive when you stop at a light on a 10 degree day and your washer jets are breathing steam!

I just installed a paie of Anco's part #
AN31-20. This is the complete unit. They went on a whole lot easier than the stock one's came off. Total investment was $17. 33 including tax and about 2 minutes of time.

I tried the Bosch blades and they were a little better, but wore out extreamly fast. I now have the ANCO 31-20 that I found at Walmat for under $4 a piece and am content with these.

Maybe I'll just get the Bosch's, the ANCO's, and the JCW's and try them all out. They will all get used up one way or another...

RKohn, this is the first I have heard of little springs. How much are they and are they really effective?

After trying all different kinds and configurations on all kinds of rigs,I've settled with Anco's,price is right and they last.

Arcticat,

The springs were only $5 or $6. It takes a little work to get them on, but they really help put extra pressure on the glass.

BTW - For a poor man's washer solvent heater just add 10ft. of washer hose wrapped around the upper radiator hose. Not much help at startup, but helps later on and it only costs $2.

Went to Wallyworld tonight and couldn't find the "springs". Do you have a name or part number? Do they replace the oem springs on the arms or do they attach somewhere else?

I'll second the Anco. I put on a set of their 'Aero' model last March and only replaced the blades a couple weeks ago. They have a shape similar to the OEM, in that wind does not lift them off the windshield. (Well, *rarely*, anyway. ) After 10 months, they were still cleaning the windscreen quite well.

As to winter blades, I had the devil's own time with the driver's side lifting clear of the windscreen. So I installed a 17" wiper on the driver's side and the lifting problem *almost* disappeared. Of course, now that I'm in VA and rarely have the blades freeze up, I'm not using winter blades now.

This winter I have been using a Lexor blade/frame combo I picked up at Wal-Mart. Was undecided between the ANCO 31 series (premium) and the Lexor. The Lexor's had an all metal frame and seemed more solidly built unit than the ANCO's. I am rather impressed with the Lexor blade performance this winter (much better than the factory). I think the blade/frame ran around $6 each at Wal-mart. I did not expect much for this price (especially in winter applications), but they have done rather well so far. They have performed equally well if not better than the Trico?/Tricon? (can't remember which brand)winter blades I usually get at Costco and run during winter.

When it's time to replace blades agian I will try the much acclaimed Bosch Micro Edge blades. Price at AutoZone and PepBoys was not much more than what I paid at Wal-mart for the Lexor's.
