Man, I have been having problems with this truck. One moment the truck is running like a sick dog, another moment it wakes up and the truck will just throw out the thickest smoke and haul ass.

And then here we go again, running like crap again.

It changes its mind almost every time I drive the truck and it is bothering the crap out of me. I am starting to think its something electrical... . if that is possible. Is there wires or modules I need to check to make sure??? I have heard of people running valet switch on their 12V's and this feels like I got one... . but without the switch and the truck wants to do whatever it feels like.

I just put in a new overflow valve and it helped some. I haven't checked the fuel pressure though. I guess I need to but it sure doesn't feel like that.

HELP,

JD

Sounds like it could be the shut down solenoid acting up. If its the original ,its probably falling apart. The rubber boot rots and it starts sticking. ... . As far as I know the injector pump is all mechanical... . No electrons needed... . Aint it nice:D :D

Next time it starts running in the no power mode, leave the engine running and go see if you can pull up on the start/stop soleniod. Sometimes they don't stay up all the way, truck will start and run okay, except for a big power loss

Yeah, I know the pump is mechanical, but that fuel shutoff solenoid is what I was thinking when I said electrical. That is why I bought a 12V in the first place... . fully mechanical. :D

PIERS: I appreciate the tip. I will try your suggestion first since it is simple and free to do. If that doesn't work, I will be wondering if it isn't the fuel shutoff solenoid.

This thread makes me wonder about my experience.

I recently ordered the 3K GSK from Piers and after Installing it, I had great acceleration and a huge change in boost. It stayed that way for some time then went away. Now I have mediocre boost and performance with the #5 plate.

When I did the GSK installation I noticed the rubber boot on the shut down solenoid was real bad so I coated the rotten places with liquid tape. Now I wonder if that might be causing too much resistance to the solenoid.

I'll check it out.

I agree, sounds like it could be a bad shutoff solenoid. I had similar problems, replaced the solenoid and finito problemo.
