Here I am

Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) is there such a thing as a generator that can be driven off the nv4500 pto?

i've been looking around on the web and found the real power for the transfer case pto but that does me no good with 2wd (they don't list dodge anyway) i think it'd be handy for not just remote conditions and job sites but home use too

Not too sure, but I put together a nice 3-point platform generator which runs off the PTO of my old Farmall H. Works real great, thanks to a 1:2 speed increaser gearbox I bought cheap at a surplus store. I run a 13" V-belt pulley off of one end of the gearbox and a 4" pulley on the shaft of the Gen. At about 800 RPM on the tractor, I can get 3400-3600 RPM at the Gen. It puts out enough 120 VAC to run most household items when the elec. goes out, plus it will go anywhere the Farmall will go.

I would think a person could do this with our Dodges with enough skills and time and parts.

yea i was sorta thinking it wouldn't be easy the idea makes too much sense, how many trucks are out there with that common pto design that are doing work where a generator would be a god send, not needing to lug around a genset and secure it overnight blah blah blah, sounds like a future project, harbor freight has a compact 10kw unit for around $500 that shouldn't be too hard to fit up

And the Cummins is so powerful, it could be running at 1,100 rpm and churn one heck of a lot of power.

Are there any hydraulic drives that will bolt up to the PTO case? I'm thinking a hydraulic driven Gen. instead of mechanical drive would be easier--just run the lines into the bed.

that was one of the first thoughts i had, a couple quick couplers and you are not lugging it around the 95% of the time you don't need it

Maybe a pump from a dump truck? I wish we had our old one, it had a transmission driven pto that powered the lift for the bed. Not sure how everything worked on that.
