My elbo has started leaking under the V-clamp. As I use the remote mount 4" BD brake I was concerned about the weight being supported by the turbo and manifold so I fabbed a mounting tab at the bell housing and welded it to the 4" down pipe. Now I'm thinking this isn't allowing correct expansion of the hot down pipe. But I just wanted to make sure there isn't supposed to be a round gasket between the elbow and turbo, under the V-clamp, before I jump to conclusions.

I have my brake set to 45psi and it really hisses with thet thing leaking. :eek:

Larry;

Try replacng the "V" clamp first. They damage easier than people thing and the stainless material can stretch. I buttered my elbow with high temp anti-sieze and cannot say if it helped or not. didn't hurt so... .

But, I don't run an exhaust brake to test the system.

Yes Larry-

My 97 does have a gasket there. But the last time i had to replace it, Cummins had a hard time finding the part number, wished i would have wrote it down.

No gasket on mine... . you have to make sure you have the two pieces lined up ... ... ..... I had a hard time getting mine to seal

I have the same problem. It helps to clean the surface area up if it's rough. I didn't know there is a gasket either. I am running an 1. 5" extention so I have two clamped surfaces to leak.

The gasket is a thin(approx. 1/32) carbon paper looking gasket. I don't know exactly what it is made of. But i did get it from Cummins.

I guess one could be made from a high heat gasket material like Garlock 1000.
