At 2:55 PM, I arrived home. Took some stuff out of the truck into the house. Went inside and talked to the kids for a moment, and then walked back out. 3:02 PM, started by taking out the transmission jack, tool box, and a 4X8 sheet of waferwood from the back of the D150, transferring the battery back from the D150 to the PW, starting it and backing it up a few feet onto the car ramps for added clearance. . 3:47, I have removed the driveshaft, shifter lever, and the transmission is now resting comfortably in the shade beside the PW.

The parts house says that a full rebuild kit for the transmission is $132. 00, and I paid $60 for a used transmission i'm going to put the kit in.

I only removed 4 bolts (the transmission hump inside the truck having been removed a few days ago), the u-joint straps, and the shifter lever.

Can someone remind me again why I wanted a newer truck? I can't remember right now... ...

If not a record, it's a good effort. If I remember, the primary reason for the new truck was to get a Cummins. Your're just gonna have to get your work face on and transplant a little B5. 9 into the old Power Wagon.

It'll only hurt for a little while as you massage the fire wall and related sheetmetal enough to make it fit.

That might be a record for a guy doing it alone, but a co-worker and I R&Red an automatic transmission in a Dodge van once in twenty minutes, start to finish. Boy we were cookin that day! It helped that we'd worked side by side on similar jobs, daily, so we each worked on one side of the job and knew what the other guy was doing. Of course I think I remember one of those vans losing the transmission on the e-way, not long after we did that job. :)

We used to rebuild those trannys on the shop floor. Most times we messed up and had to pull the transmission out two or three times before we'd get it right :) That helped us gain experience for the fast R&R. LOL

On the shop floor???? Geez!!!!

Only the old torqueflights would take that and keep working... sheesh.

I did this out in the driveway... I had to start with everything I needed sitting in the other pickup and the truck having not run in 3 weeks. It took at least 2 minutes just to get it running, since it apparently had to pull gas from the tank... I think I spent more time moving stuff than working on it.

These old beasts are just so dang simple and easy to work on... And the cost of doing so is not bad at all... Hard to trade that for the complexity of the newer ones.
