ok, so i finally got around to lookin through my camers and found some pics i took back in the beginning of the summer... thought i'd find out what your thoughts are on my trans, as you can see from the picture the magnet is full of metal. my question is am i on borrowed time? or is this normal? the second picture is my radiator that i decided to clean after i overheated unloaded sitting in traffic

Thanks,

Tim

If its been awhile since your last transmission service, thats NOT alot of metal on the magnet. The debris on the radiator,is the blow by bottles sticky oil mist finding its way to the front of the radiator. Throw the blowby bottle away and extend the blowby hose away from the radiator.

I had a 95 CTD with a automatic and at 37K I did not have time to service the transmission so I took it to a, what I thought to be a good transmission shop around here. Any way they called two hours later and said I needed a new transmission, so I ran down there on lunch hour and took a look at what was so alarming to them  Well there was more in my pan then what you can see in your. I told them to put it back together so I could run it by Dodge to see if they would cover it. Nope out of warranty :( I drove it home and changed it my self, and thought I have seen worse. Any way I sold the truck at 105K and still the stock transmission. :D

I would not worry about what is seen in this photo, service it regular and enjoy Oo.

ok, thanks for the replies... this was the first time i have dropped the pan, and i have no maintenance records from the previous owner, so i don't know when, or if the pan had eveer been dropped before.

thanks again, Tim
