New multilayer head gasket from cummins?

Check the videos in this link - very interesting.

Nasa Tech Brief has an article in it on a guy who says he has invented the internal combustion engine of the future. It's 150 lbs, 14 x 14 inches, produces 814 ft lbs of torque and as much hoursepower as a Cummins Turbo Diesel.

I did some quick hand calcs for the 32 pistons they're claiming and came up with 848 cu. in. . I also did the same calcs for the 8 physical pistons and came up with around 212 cu. in. I guess they are counting the displacement of each stroke? Either way i still give them credit for trying to re-invent the internal combustion engine. Hopefully it works out

Yes - there's multiple power pulses (cycles) per piston per revolution based on the description of the engine. So they talk about the 'equivalent' displacement compared to 4 stroke engines.

I dunno but I have a 588cu in 8 cyl making 815 horse with a solid roller, 4 3/8 crank, 4. 5 bore, 9:1 compression normally aspirated, heck it only weighs 900 lbs oh and aluminum heads too. I think he needs to give me a call.....

I can't imagine that it would get any better mileage than a comparable conventional engine since the advertised displacement is the same. Maybe just a fuel savings due to the reduced weight of the engine, but fuel burn under the same conditions I would guess would be the same.

Fuel burned vs BHp produced depends upon the efficency of the engine.

Each piston fires four times for each revolution.

Saw that engine at the LA Auto Show. It was very impressive. I hope they make it work as advertised.
