Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Is this noise normal?

I was crawling around under my truck today checking for leaks and found something peculiar. When I turn the front driveline (four wheel drive) by hand it makes a screaching noise on the end that attaches to the transfer case. Sounds like metal rubbing tightly against dry rubber. Anyone know if this is normal? Felt around and found nothing rubbing on the outside, no leaks either. Sounds like it's coming from the area where the driveline enters the case. If anyone out there is going to be working under their truck could you check yours to see if it the same. Appreciate it.

Sounds like a dry U-joint to me.

Not a U-joint. The sound is a little further back, about where the transfer case driveline seal should be. Anyone check theirs yet?
