Hello,

I ordered a new lift pump to carry as a spare and the number on the pump does not match the number I was given on this board. This says Carter and it has the number 48188G07A on it. This is the only number on the pump.

I purchased the lift pump from a member of this forum and he said he got them straight from Cummins. Anyone know what this number is and if it's the right pump for my 2002 HO? It has a wire harness attached to it if that helps any.

Thanks,

Ray

There have been several revisions on the lift pumps . The newer the pump is ,the better. Look for a manufacture date or ask cummins if the newest revision is the same number as yours. As far as fit, if you can plug it in, it fits. [I think the early ones had a wiring harness adapter]. If you unplug your pump to check this, use dielectric grease to keep things working.

Just got back from the Dodge Parts Counter and the Cummins Part Counter. This part number is not a Dodge or Cummins part number. Both the Dodge version and the Cummins do not have a wire harness attached to the pump like this one does. I'd still be interested to hear from anyone that may know if part number 48188G07A is the new version of the pump.

The person I bought the pump from said it came directly from Cummins but I just took it to the local Cummins shop and they swear that it is not a Cummins part number on the pump.

Thanks.

Ray... .

Did Cummins verify the PN I gave... . 3990105 ??

There is a "kit" that Cummins sells which has a pigtail needed for earlier model 24V's. You don't need the pigtail on an 02 truck. That "kit" has the 3990105 pump included, but because of the pigtail, the "kit" has a different PN than 3990105. I don't know what the kit number is.

Call Layne Anthony at Cummins NW 888. 289. 0900. He's a TDR member. Very helpful.

BTW, my 3990105 I bought from Cummins NW did not have ANY numbers on it that even closely resembled either a Cummins or Dodge PN. It did not have 3990105 stamped anywhere. Carter makes and supplys the pumps, and I think Cummins just uses it's own inventory numbering system, and doesn't require Carter to stamp them at the factory.

Like I said before, AFAIK, there have been NO revised pumps from Cummins since the 3990105, and that came out ~ 5/01.

What 24 said, the number stamped on the pump does not match the part number cummins uses. I have an extra pump and the numbers are close to what yours are.

24V-DSL,

Yes, the number you gave is the correct Cummins part number but that pump does not have a built in wire harness. Your number is the number I ordered when I ordered the pump and was told that was what I was getting. This pump is different then the pump the local Cummins shop has due to it's built in wire harness. I want the newest version of the pump if I'm going to pay the money and spend the time installing it and I can't verify this is the newest version since it looks different then the pump at the local Cummins shop.

I suspected that the number may be a Carter part number but the attached wire harness makes me wonder if it's not an older version.

Now I'm confused, does the pump you have Ray have a wire harness already attached? What I think 24 meant about the wire harness was an added wire you can get with the pump, which I believe is an adapter wire for 98 trucks, this was placed with the pump for a period, I think in the same box. The newer version pump I have is exactly like the old pump, It just has the standard plug on the bottom no wires hanging off it. I did purchase the wire harness for my pump relocation to make my wiring reach the back of the truck. Any way you can post a pic of the pump??

The newer pumps have a plastic connector on the bottom of them, where the harness plugs into. The older pumps have a harness coming off them and then a plastic connector. If you buy a newer pump you will also have to buy an extension harness about six inches long, unless your truck had the newer style when you bought it.

The pumps with the wiring pigtail attatched were for the early model 24v and have not been sold in many years also slightly lower pressure.

mediccummin,

Yes, the pump I was sent has a wire harness attached to the pump. Can't be removed. It's not the the pump with a connector like I was expecting (no wires). This has wires coming off the pump that are about six inches long that terminate with a connector. I suspect this is an older model and not what I wanted.
