I just received my ATS Fender Flares. I want to have them painted to match my truck. I went to a couple of different body shops to get estimates, and both of them wanted over $600 to paint them. I didn't think it would be that much. Should I continue getting more quotes or is this what I'm going to have to pay? Also, I had the chance to get them painted from ATS for $180 additional, but the paint code on my truck didn't match any of the color codes they offered.

Chris

take your paint code and go to a local paint shop and they should be able to get the right color and paint them yourself and save a lot of money

It may help to just send them back and purchase some that are already painted the OEM color.

I just purchased some fATS flares for my truck at a total cost of $399, painted and shipping.

$600 bucks is crazy... about double a normal price. I'd say shop around a little more, you already have the flares in hand, you should be able to find someone more reasonable.

Got mine painted with factory paint from a local collision repair shop for $130 including tax... I'd keep shopping!

That's a dang good price. I had them break the cost down and here's how it went.

1) Each fender takes one hour to prep (i. e. scratch the plastic surface to get paint to adhear correctly. )

2) One hour to paint

3) One hour to tint

4) One hour to install

Paint = $150

Labor (7 hrs @ $60/hr. ) = $420

Shop Supplies = $50

Total = $620 + Tax

I've checked out another shop and they were around $400. My wife told me that a co-worker of her's works at a body shop on the side and is going to give me a quote. I hope he's cheaper.

Most but not all body shops make their money killing your insurance company with inflated prices all incahoots with most adjusters of said insurance company that in turn stick it to you who by law must have insurance, meaning they don't have time for little things or special jobs, if it's NOT an insurance scam, they want no part of it and the price is reflective of that. Sorry for the long rant, i've dealt tooo many times with this crap, i just left my bushwacker flares unpainted black, the body shops can all go to you know where.

One of the shops told me not to leave them unpainted because the plastic will fade and crack in time. Not sure if that's true. If I can't get a good quote, then I'll leave them as is.

MMeier - Yep, i like it, i wish i had the space to keep my 1st gen, i do miss it, since i'm an old car guy, i miss that old truck rugged feel and i put a crapload of work and money into that one. Now that i'm doing some mods on the 03 and making it different from everyone elses, i like it much more.

Chris, bolt them up on one side and see what you think, mine look fantastic in that satin black oem look, i wouldn't have mine painted if someone else paid for it because that's the look i wanted, if and when you find a painter or dyi, use a little flex additive, it's for urethane bumpers and parts that could have a tendency to flex, it's a small price to pay for the life of your paint. The bushwackers can be used as found as far as the manufacturer is concerned, if they start to fade in a few years i may paint satin black if i need to. Jim

Thanks for the advise. I like the black look on my white truck, but I"m planning on having my rocker panels sprayed black with line-x. I don't want it to be to much over kill with black flares and black rocker panels. I thought having the flares painted white will help in that area.

FWIT, if there is a One Day painting near you, give them a call and see what they would charge.

I used them for a repaint on my old truck and the charge was 600 and it looked better than the day it rolled off the showroom.

Now that I've read the other posts, I ought to clarify mine... the $130 was just for getting them prepped and painted. I installed them myself. --Eric

Well, I got a quote to have them prepped, painted and installed for $200. I can live with that. Sure beats the first two bids of over $600.

From where? I just ordered a set of Pocket flares and want to get them painted. I am in Omaha.
