All - I've got 17,000 miles on my truck. I took my truck to the dealer for an oil change.

The next morning, I checked the oil. I noticed that half of the paint was gone from the plastic valve cover (that has the big Cummins C and says Dodge, Turbo Diesel, etc). If I had to guess, I'd say that someone spilled oil and then used some cleaner (like a carb cleaner) that ate away the paint.

Has anyone else had this problem before? I immediately left a voice mail with the service manager and told them what happened. Haven't had the chance to take the truck back yet.

Thanks,

Mark

Note to self: Change oil in my garage. Seriously, I wonder if there is some kind of protectant we can brush on it that can take engine heat.

I haven't spilled oil on mine but mine is almost gone. I put my hand on it installing some gauges and the cummins came off on my hand.

Mines mostly gone also. It isn't worth losing sleep over. In fact, count your blessings it was under the hood. That is why I wouldn't take my truck to the dealer (or any shop) for that matter, with the exception of warranty work. With what in my opinion is the worst (softest) paint put on any vehicles ever, it wouldn't have taken much for some mechanic to come and lean over the fender to see what his buddy is doin', scrape the fender with his belt and zipper, and knock the oil filter wrench off the bumper, scraping the paint all the way to the ground. It has happened to me before (my 98 A/C work).

Never wash your hand again! :-laf :p

Mine peeled off too. Annoyed me, so I repainted mine. Used model car paint. Worked great! Kinda Ricer, I know. But I'm anal-retentive about that stuff.

Engine decal paint, and ketchup on every tater tot. My own personal battles.

Thats what the other hands' for. Oo.

I just remembered... I also did the "Caution Fan" in red under there too. More of a liability thing, really. Model paint worked great.

I did the same thing, only in yellow. Remember the ricer's code: yellow is the fastest color.

a can of krylon fusion paint and make it pretty. . then some model paint to accent it. my pick was blue, but red can look good too... i wouldn't take it to the dealer for that. even if they offered to get you a brand new one, the chance of further damage from them scratching/dinging doors in the service bay makes me scared. .
