ISB applications, and their outputs...

Howdy -



I've read on here about how the ISB's in our Rams are detuned about 40%. I agree with what I've read.



I'm wondering, in what application (dump trucks, tractors, marine, OTR trucks, F550's, etc, etc... ) does the ISB get installed at its maximum potential. Surely its not detuned for all applications. Does anyone know what application uses the ISB's full potential? I know some of the bombed TDR Cummins motors are working at their max (or maybe over). But I'm talking about an ISB that hasn't been touched and is working at the ISB's rated output from the get-go.

Cummins ISB Rating

According to the Cummins ISB Brochure the highest rating is for RV/Fire/School Bus/Tow trucks at 275/300 hp. You will find that other equipment will be rated lower because they typically don't need to go faster and are geared lower for more grunt.

Another reason that you can find the higher ratings for fire, bus and tow-truck is because they are not continually operated at full load. They often include RV in this class.

No ISB or Cummins of any sort in the Fords until you get to the F650 and up.



Anyways, I see ISB ratings of all different sorts... The Snap-On guy has an ISB in his truck, and it is rated at only 190 HP. On the other hand, I see motorhomes and bigger trucks in here all the time with the 275 HP engine. The 275 has gobs of power, along with 660 lbs of torque. It's no modified Dodge, but still goes pretty good--when mated to a manual trans.

Freightliners, 1999 brochure, models fl 50 to fl 80, for ISB Cummins 175 to 250 hp, (275 hp for emergency vehicles but I know RV's were advertised at 275 hp, also).



You can get different torque applications to go along with hp too.

Mine is 520 tq but I could have opted for 605 tq with same hp.

What are they rated at when sold in a farm tractor? Or is the ISB not used? What is the rating of the 5. 9B in a farm tractor?

The Case IH MX Series MAXXUM tractors are only rated at 120 PTO hp with a 5. 9B. PTO hp is minus drivetrain and accessory loss such as hydraulic pumps. It's hard to find tractor hp ratings except in PTO hp.

Cummins in farm tractor

Have a friend with a 1992 Cummins in a 1755 Oliver, conversion job, pulls 90+HP on the dino. Was 10HP short at first,just bought it,found plugged air cleaner. They had talked to a diesel shop as to what it should have as HP. Not sure what would have to be done on a 1992 for added HP. Any ideas? Clutch would be the weak link!! jps
