Okay fellas,

I'm going to install my tach tomorrow, I am trying to see what the best way is to do some stuff. Its magnet activated so.

How to get the magnets exactly 180 deg across from one another. I thought about putting them next to the notches in the vibration dampener, one on the left side of a notch, the other on the right side of the other notch? Also how to turn the engine over? I don't have a barring(?) tool.

Thanks, Steve

Turn the engine over using a socket on the alternator pully nut. Is real easy to turn backwards. You might want to pull the lead off the fuel shutoff solinoid "just to be safe".

I don't know if the magnets have to be exactly 180 degrees apart to make the tach work properly. One thing to remember is that if your truck has a crankshaft position sensor like my 93 has, the magnets will need to go on the face of the pully and not on the side. the sensor is only . 050" or so away from the pully, not room enough for the magnets, and the magnets would screw up the readings any way.

Good luck, hope everything goes ok.

To find 180* spread, just use a piece of string with a nut on one end. Hold it at the top of the damper, make a mark and go to the bottom and mark that..... bingo 180* apart, just a simple plumbline

Bob.

Man I'm PO'd:mad: I got everything finished and started her up about 1:00, idle=700 WOT 2,000 rpm:confused: What is up with this? Help me!

C'mon guys, somebody has to know something.

Thanks, Steve:(

This stinks, 130 bucks for a tach and I can't even get it to work(right). What should I do? Take it out(just the guage, or all of it?) and send it back? refund, replacement? Any ideas?

Thanks Steve
