R5501 is a good choice for a tach, as it has a stock appearance and will work beautifully in your '92.

By the way, you can get the same tach with 4000rpm range (part # R5503) for about the same money. It's a matter of personal preference.

Do yourself a favor and also order the installation kit that is specifically made for 1992 and '93 Rams, part # R8912-92, for $21. 83.

Most likely, the tach will not work if you use the white wire with the filter. But hook up that one first, and if the tach doesn't work, hook up the yellow wire instead of the white one. If you have questions, e-mail or PM me as I have been there not too long ago and the memory is still fresh.

Tach lighting is WAY too bright. I needed 3 sessions of green glass paint to bring it down to acceptable levels.

For mounting I would order the single gauge holder cockpit, part # R7602, for $24. 00 instead.

I got the 4k Tach and the steering column mount you pictured and it fit. I like the looks as well. In order to get the tach to fit the pod you need to dremmel off one of the mounting studs on the rear of the tach and bend one of the lighting spades 45 degrees to make it fit all the way back. Interferance fit is tight enough, but I might add one wrap of electrical tape.

I replaced the bulbs with LED's. I like the lower heat and long life of LED's. One mistake I made was that I got my other guages with red indicators instead of white. If you use blue LED's to match the dash, the needle doesn't light up. (with the LED's there is no red light to reflect off the red needle. ) I ended up going with red LED's. A bit wierd but they work well.

My isspro gauges are too bright also, compared to factory gauges, even hooked into the dimmer. Anyone think an inline resistor would work ok to dim them closer to factory levels? Anyone done this and have a starting point?

Thanks,

John

I have my gauges hooked into the dimmer circuit, and have had no problems. Maybe my gauges being farther away (on the pillar) makes for less of a noticeable difference?

If you have the EV series tach (shown in the pic), you wont need the filter. If you have the flat faced gauges, you may well need it.

I wouldn't get a 3k rpm tach. Unless you never intend to alter the stock rpm and pump settings. If you open up the max throttle settings and or install a 3200rpm governor spring, you'll need a 4k rpm tach.

on my 93 250, there is a wire harnes mounted directly beside the hood release under the dash. is this where the tach plugs in? if not, where is the plug located? also, does the isspro come with the wiring?

thanks
