So I have my ATS pulse manifold installed with a stock turbo. The other day during some routine checks and maintenance I notice some black soot around the manifold and turbo flange where they meet on the outside or passenger side of the turbo/manifold. It appears that the studs were a little to long or the ATS manifold flange is thinner than the stock one.

I called ATS and was called back and they told me to try using 2 gaskets between turbo and manifold...

I am no expert, but does this sound like a good idea???

I am experiencing no loss of boost... truck seems to run as well as ever... my EGT's are the same if not lower... and never climb as high as they could/probably should. .

So am I making too much out of a small amount of soot... is it really no big deal... or is any leak no matter how small a big deal.

The area of soot is about . 25 inch wide and maybe 1. 5-2 inches long. .

any opinions welcome... I hate to rip it apart again... just to find out a small amount of soot is normal or ok...

When I installed the manifold (stock turbo) I noticed that I had to put washers before the nuts. The flange against the turbo on the ATS was a tad thinner than the stock. The factory studs were not threaded enough, so if I cranked the bolts all the way w/o the washers, the turbo was still not tight against the manifold. I added some old dirty lock washers out of my nut/bolt bucket and that was enough.

I had to do the washer thing as well, There aren't enough threads on the studs as the flange on the manifold is a tad thinner. Pull each nut off and put a lock washer uner each and re torque, should be good to go.

Did you re-use the stock factory exhaust gaskets? Or did ATS supply new ones? On my truck they are metal and on each manifold there are 4 plates for each port. I put a little gasket sealer around the gaskets as I installed the ATS just to hold the gaskets on and ues the supplued studs and lock washers to install it.

I believe the torque spec for the manifold is 35psi. ITs also a good idea after a little bit of driving just to re-check the bolts.

Hope this helps!

I reused the manifold to motor gaskets per dodge tech and replaced the turbo to manifold gasket cause I had one sitting around. Manifold to Block gaskets are insane expensive from the dealer but the turbo gasket was only like 11 bucks.

Manifold to block gaskets are a lot cheaper if you get them from cummins instead of dodge. :)

Yes, Dodge wanted $18. 00 apiece for the crushables, Cummins price was $18. 00 for the set.

I believe, the parts guy at Dodge... had to be . . confused and mistaken?
