Was just driving home and my 02 2500 just up and died!!!! Just did a full service a week ago. everything seemed fine. Checked for fuel at injection pump and got alot of air. got over 1/4 tank of fuel. Didn't know if it could be lift pump or has anybody ever had trouble with fuel filter cap leaking air. I could hear the lift pump running when i bumped the key over.

The fuel filter should be pressurized when the the lift pump is running so it would leak fuel out not let air in. Did you try priming it back up to the injection pump and trying to start it? Sounds like possibly your lift pump is weak, do you get a good amount of fuel at the injection pump when you bump the starter?

getting alot of air at injection pump. just crawled under truck and looking for cracked lines or somewhere it is sucking air between tank and lift pump. lift pump sounds like it is running like it should. should the lift pump run conitinuously until pressure is built up or not? Because it runs and then cuts out.

The lift pump will run run for 3-5 seconds after you turn the key on, if you bump the starter without starting the engine it will run for about 25 seconds. Are you getting aerated fuel at the IP or no fuel at all?

aireated fuel one time then good fuel next time then no fuel next time then aireated again and so on and so one

My fuel gauge is off and tank empty at 1/4 tank. Maybe yours is also. I would put fuel in the tank and see if that helps.

I remember when this happened to me not long after purchase of a the truck new. It was fixed on warranty(before in-tank pumps). I have since never really used the gauge again just know how many miles to run using trip mileage before I need fuel and then get it. I have a feeling there is a whole lot of use that do this.

well you were right dave. gauge was off. put 34 gallons in she runs great now!

Now you know when to get fuel. It was a real shock when it happened to me but I was watching the pressure gauge at the time it started bucking so I had a real good idea what happened.

This seems to be a common problem. I know a couple guys that have had there trucks from new and out of the blue the level of fuel was inaccurate and cause the truck to shut off from lack of fuel. Seems like the circuit board on the sending unit wears out and gives a false fuel level reading.
